Verisign enables the security, stability, and resiliency of key internet infrastructure and services, including providing root zone maintainer services, operating two of the 13 global internet root servers, and providing registration services and authoritative resolution for the .com and .net top-level domains, which support the majority of global e-commerce.

The Principal Engineer for Architecture and Infrastructure (A&I) Operations ensures operational reliability and resiliency for critical support infrastructure by leading and managing team(s) of engineers. The team focuses on release deployments, server maintenance and monitoring, incident management and operational support, including a primary on-call rotation.

This position engages in activities related to application and infrastructure systems support to ensure optimal performance and security of systems in support of the business.  The Principal also serves as a liaison between senior business and technology leaders to track service levels and performance metrics relative to support and services from enterprise and 3rd party commitments.  This role delivers operational support for enterprise solutions for infrastructure services, such as monitoring, authentication services, virtualization, operating systems images, configuration management and automation, internal web tools and reporting. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage A&I operations related communications and relationships across the TSG and CSO organizations
  • Build a new operations team, including staffing, standards and procedures, transitioning operational responsibilities from a set of infrastructure engineering teams
  • Reporting to the Director of Systems Infrastructure Engineering and Operations, serves as a leader to the members of the A&I Operations team, providing career direction, coaching and encouraging personal development
  • Provides subject matter expertise regarding processes, technology, organization and support to leadership.  Participates in creation of performance measurements including Leading Key Performance Indicators (LKPIs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs)
  • Communicates and tracks progress toward company and departmental goals and initiatives, ensures team responsibilities are communicated and understood and manages team performance
  • Supervises the activities of the Architecture & Infrastructure (A&I) Operations team within the company
  • Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities and recommending and implementing changes to methods for that team and influences the engineering teams across the A&I department
  • Acts as the escalation point from the Verisign NOC on systems issues relative to all A&I systems
  • Identifies, monitors, reports, solves and trends systems issues related to all A&I applications and systems
  • Escalates issues to A&I engineering teams as appropriate
  • Communicates systems health to senior leadership and key A&I constituents complementing existing practices using trending analysis etc. 
  • Actively engages with external providers to ensure services and products developed are delivered to meet or exceed business expectations where appropriate 

Education and experience:

  • 15+ years of hands-on experience in IT Infrastructure and Operations in a large, global enterprise environment
  • 2+ years’ experience managing operations teams
  • 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent experience
