Enviva is seeking an Emission Control Process Engineer to join Enviva’s Centers of Excellence (COE) engineering team. This individual must be a self-starter and a subject matter expert for the following emission control related equipment: Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs), Regenerative Catalytic Oxidizers (RCOs), Wet Electrostatic Precipitators (WESPs), Scrubbers, Baghouses and Bin Vents. This role reports to the Director of Engineering, Centers of Excellence, and provides support to all Enviva sites. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop, define and update detailed technical specifications and engineering standards related to emission control equipment  
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) during the design, sizing, and selection of equipment by delivering and communicating the advantages and disadvantages for all critical decisions  
  • Lead the technical aspects of commissioning, startup and full capacity ramps of both new facilities and expansion projects within existing facilities  
  • Establish standards and Drive consistency between plants by informing, coaching, and promoting best practices and standards to local teams with the purpose of driving standardization and consistency across the entire company 
  • Support the needs of the business through planned and scheduled project related work as well as day to day support consisting of advanced problem solving and detailed hands-on technical troubleshooting  
  • Partner with in-house environmental resources to support permitting and testing requirements  
  • Articulate vision for future state as well as best in class performance metrics; develop plan and manage business functions to achieve that vision  
  • Manage technical aspects of key vendors and form strategic relationships with new ones  
  • Conceive, plan, and execute process improvement projects to improve Enviva’s operations  
  • Communicate and advise key business leaders (executives and plant management) on methods and options for improving operations through technical solutions  
  • Create, update, and maintain standard work and operating procedures used to develop and train operations and maintenance teams  
  • Implement sound engineering solutions for mitigating existing operational issues, drive continuous improvement, and introduce new technology innovations where appropriate   
  • Ensure that all work, including external and internal resources, adheres to safe work practices that support a safe workplace for all  
  • Demonstrate formality and lead by example in ensuring that all changes are entered, thoroughly vetted, and tracked in Enviva’s MOC (Management of Change) system 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably Mechanical or Chemical (however significant experience in related field will be considered)  
  • 4-7 years of experience in manufacturing related engineering  
  • Experience and exposure to the wood products industry  
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, and problem-solving skills. Strong team building skills, including ability to coach, lead, and develop work teams, provide training, motivate/empower others, drive action, and resolve conflict  
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to prioritize complex and dynamic workload while delivering progress across multiple initiatives  
  • Demonstrated excellence in advanced problem solving and detailed hands-on technical troubleshooting during commissioning, startup and normal operation of equipment  
  • Must be data-driven and possess a high level of attention to detail  
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills to effectively communicate to engineering staff, cross functional departments, and upper management  
  • Exhibits high level of professionalism and sets an example for others to follow  
  • Demonstrated project management skills for ensuring project delivery to customer expectations, schedule, and budget  
  • Interest and ability to understand PLC logic, HMI function and how it all works together to impact the process 
  • Experience with process data historian systems (Rockwell VantagePoint experience is a plus) 
  • Strong data analysis skills (Minitab experience is a plus) 
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project with the ability to learn other applications related to the job  
  • Working knowledge of Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)

Travel requirements

  • High Travel: First year 75%+, after between 25% and 75% (dependent on project and support requirements)
