Harry's is hiring a

Product Design Engineer

New York, United States
We built Harry’s with one simple belief: everyone deserves a great shave at a fair price. As such, we seek to provide our own brand of exceptional shaving products direct to our customers online (www.harrys.com).

We launched in March 2013, and have been blown away by the customer response since then. We’re now looking to bring amazing people, like you, together to redefine the way people interact with brands online.

The Team
At Harry’s, the Research & Development brings new products to life.  We are responsible for designing,  developing, and ultimately manufacturing the products that you see on harrys.com today.  It is incredibly complex to create a high quality razor, and to do so in a way that keeps costs low for customers.  That's why we are building a high quality team here in New York and at the Harry's factory in Germany.

The Role
As a Product Design Engineer you will be responsible for designing and developing market driven products in a fast paced collaborative environment. In this role you will bring extensive knowledge to the team in common manufacturing processes including die casting, injection molding, wielding and assembly. You will work with the team to drive the next iteration of products at Harry's.

What You Will Do:
  • Become fluent in razor design, specifically in cartridge and handle design, and understand complexities of blade production.
  • Design products such as razors that meets functional performance goals, enables original ID vision and aesthetics, and can be manufactured at high volume.
  • Build a strong engineering function that can scale. Establish standards, process and systems while remaining flexible.
  • Create tests that validate design intent, and work in a resource constrained team to quickly assess designs.
  • Own work streams and deliver results on time.
  • Work with global supply partners managing complex projects, in addition to ME work.
  • Build relationships with internal and external teams quickly. Specifically, with ID, Product Management, Quality, Sourcing, and Engineering, and with suppliers.
This Might Describe You:
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Masters preferred
  • 6+ years of related design and development experience working for companies with high volume consumer product or medical equipment manufacturing
  • Experience creating products. You'v made products for market, are an expert in Design for Manufacture (DFM) and have extensive experience with patents
  • Kick-ass problem solver. You design around existing patents and optimize design to allow for ease of manufacturing.
  • Ultra strong communicator.  You can work in a global team and can explain complex concepts in a straightforward and easy to understand way.
  • Learner. You jump into a new area that you have not seen quickly – you see things as “challenges” instead of “problems”.
  • Committed to making the best. You are only happy when products are the best they can be, and you challenge the people around to have the same level of commitment.
Here's who you'll work with:
  • Directly report to the VP, Engineering
  • The R&D team in NY, Germany, and China
  • The Supply Chain team to ensure products are manufacturable on a mass scale
  • The Harry's team at large to build an exceptional business
