Design at Gusto

Gusto is looking for someone passionate about product design to join our Design Community in our San Francisco office. Our team crafts delightful experiences that serve thousands of small businesses across the United States to make a palpable impact on their lives. We love our users and care deeply about their dreams, aspirations, and experiences.  We are a collaborative team that believes in using a highly iterative process to create elegant, beautiful solutions.

We believe it’s important to understand the medium that you’re designing for. Thus, we are looking for a foundation in HTML/CSS and Javascript. You should also be comfortable building your own designs, making working prototypes, and meticulous about responsive design.

However, we are also interested in investing in specialists that offer unique insights into specific areas of design. Our goal is to build a well-rounded team of people who are committed to creating great experiences for users.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Build and prototype your designs
  • Maintain a deep focus on user experience by devising critical user flows through constant iteration
  • Have full creative control over your projects at Gusto
  • Develop solutions, prototype, iterate, and launch new product features frequently
  • Understand customer pain points by interacting with small business owners, their employees, and conducting user research experiments

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 3+ years experience in product design
  • Experience shipping production-level code to real-world users
  • Experience creating responsive designs
  • A solid foundation in HTML/CSS

Bonus points:

  • Strong understanding of typography and data visualization
  • Knowledge of Backbone/React
