Product Manager

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager (PM) to participate in the creation of new products and features, from the idea stage to launch.

The PM will need to innovate on behalf of the user and everything he/she does should be based on a deep understanding of user requirements as well as market needs and priorities. They will also develop metrics to measure and effectively manage the deployment of our roadmap and solutions. His/ her main responsibilities include gathering product requirements, prioritizing feature implementations and improving overall user experience.

To be successful in this role they will need to be a great communicator, innovator, influencer and an analytical problem solver. They will need to think and act fast, deal with ambiguity and be able to develop ideas into scalable products that work on a global scale. Ultimately, the PM will work with internal teams to build products that fill gaps in the market and increase user satisfaction.

Primary Duties & responsibilities

Work closely with the Product Manager to:

  • Integrate user research, product testing, research, and market analysis into product requirements to enhance user experience
  • Work closely with design in crafting simple, elegant, impactful experiences
  • Prepare Market and Product Requirements documents
  • Ensure implementation of new features and set specific timelines
  • Review and report on performance indicators
  • Suggest product enhancements to improve user experience
  • Perform quality assurance controls on products
  • Coordinate with the engineering department to deliver functional solutions
  • Work together with the UX researcher to identify user needs and market gaps
  • Monitor and report on users’ reactions after launching and thereafter
  • Create support and training documents for internal and external users

Skills & Experience required

  • Excellent communication skills along with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams
  • 5+ years of hands on product management experience
  • You have experience leading a cross-functional team to plan, build, and ship successful products
  • You're able to motivate, inspire, and influence a team
  • You do what it takes to get the highest impact things done. You prioritize, focus, have a bias towards action, and break down obstacles in your way
  • You have strong soft skills, and are an excellent communicator. You actively build positive relationships with your teammates.

  • You're detail-oriented, process-driven, and organized, and are able to stay two steps ahead of the work your team is doing
  • You're analytical, and prefer to make data-driven (rather than gut) decisions
  • You have an eye for good design and user experience
  • You hold yourself and others around you to very high standards
  • You thrive in a constantly changing environment
  • You have experience with software development
  • You have a minimum of 1 years’ experience with agile software development
  • Technical background a plus
  • Experience in eCommerce and/or distribution of FMCG products is a plus
  • Experience building software products for the Kenyan or East African market a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience with planning and writing technical documentation

FMCGs find the traditional distribution chain to be inadequate as well, making it expensive for them to serve kiosk-type retail outlets, leading to high incidences of product stock-outs and lost sales opportunities. By providing FMCGs with good data visibility, we solve this major problem of theirs.
