Propulsion Manufacturing Engineer, Clean and Part Mark

Overview:

As a Manufacturing Engineer at SpaceX you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology.  You will work on propulsion systems that will ferry humans to and from the International Space Station and ultimately extend humanity’s reach beyond the earth and moon.  You will own the relationship between our development and production teams.  You will provide input into the design and development of new and existing hardware and take a lead role in manufacturing and integration on our current and next generation launch vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead improvement projects in the production, assembly and integration of the area products as related to part cleanliness and/or part marking
  • Lead in development production procedures/processes and manage the transition of parts and assemblies from development to full rate production.
  • Aggressively drive and implement process improvements to reduce assembly hours and build cost.
  • Fully develop and implement future state production systems for all products as related to part cleanliness and/or part marking
  • Create capital/facility justifications for large projects and manage through implementation and runoff.
  • Oversee all process functions, document control and continuous improvement within propulsion processes as assigned. This includes assisting and developing PFMEA’s, control plans, work instructions, specifications, etc.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, aerospace, welding, systems or manufacturing engineering.
  • 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lean manufacturing training or experience.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master of Science degree in mechanical, aerospace, welding, systems or manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience with the development of products from R&D into production.
  • Process development, facility and line layouts, PFMEA, error-proofing.
  • Knowledge of metallic or composite manufacturing techniques, processes, equipment and other processes such as: machining, welding, drilling, sheet metal forming and stamping.
  • Experience with technical review of materials processing and a sound understanding of the interaction between process variables and the resulting microstructure and properties.
  • Participation in AWS, SAE/AMS, ASM or ASTM committees.
  • Design for manufacturability and assembly.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, engineering, fluid dynamics and mechanics of materials.
  • Design and analysis (Finite Element Analysis (FEA)/structural/static loads) experience.
  • Experience with capacity modeling, process mapping and fault analysis.
  • Pareto analysis, root cause and corrective action experience.
  • CAD experience (NX & Teamcenter a plus).
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to work long hours and weekends as needed.
