General Description of the Program

GOAL began working in Turkey in 2014, responding to the needs of refugees displaced from Kobane. Subsequently, GOAL has worked towards creating a multi-donor programme across Turkey with a particular focus on health care programming, whilst also incorporating livelihoods and emergency support components.

 

General Description of the Role

The candidate will be part of a team composed of a medical doctor, nurse, psychologist, social worker, translator and a service person who will be deployed to one of the 20 migrant health centres established by the Ministry of Health. The psychologist is responsible for ensuring that quality protection programmes and individual support are initiated and capacities developed that meet the needs of the migrants.

 

Key Duties:

  • Carry out evaluation of psychological and mental health needs of patients, elaborate a diagnosis and establish a plan of treatment
  • Ensure proper follow-up, reporting and documentation on all counselled cases and other documentation as necessary
  • Establish a monitoring and supervision system with mental health supervision unit members
  • Conduct and document weekly visits to the migrant centres as part of the monitoring and supervision plan.

 

Requirements (Person Specification):

  • Relevant degree in psychology, Master’s degree considered an advantage
  • Two to three years of experience in relevant field
  • Understanding of Turkish social welfare systems
  • Familiarity/prior experience with marginalized refugees would be a distinct advantage
  • Previous NGO experience is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience of psychological and psychosocial difficulties and response related to violence
  • Previous experience in conducting therapy sessions for individuals and groups
  • Fluency in both spoken and written Arabic and Turkish is essential
  • English is an advantage
  • Strong report-writing skills
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
