Roof Systems Manager - Body Engineering
The Roof Systems Manager will be responsible for leading the design, development and engineering activities for the roof systems, assemblies and components on new and/or current vehicle programs.
The Manager will ensure compliance of the design with all roof systems requirements and vehicle attributes, exterior appearance, technical and structural requirements, quality objectives, program milestones, deliverables and specific targets (cost, weight, timing, etc.).
The Manager will develop unique and highly advanced engineering concepts and designs, leading innovation and advanced technologies for the roof systems, sub-assemblies and components.
The Manager will fully support implementation in production and interfaces, cooperation and integration with BIW, Closures and Interior & Exterior Trim sub-groups, as well as with other vehicle groups.
The Roof Systems Manager will report to the Body and Structural Engineering Director.
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, or Aerospace/Aeronautical, or Manufacturing Engineering from an accredited university
Minimum of 8 years of experience in design, development, release and implementation in production of automotive body systems with a strong background in: body structures, design and engineering, body mechanisms, glazing and sealing systems, class “A” panels, CAE and applications, specific body components fabrication processes, testing and compliance and body manufacturing and assembly
Specific knowledge with sheet metal forming, stamping, extrusions, castings, joining, body shop operations, product launch and body assembly and production; the roof systems manager will frequently interface with the styling and vehicle design
Experience with various body materials with emphasis on light-weight materials: Aluminum, composite, ultra-high-strength steel, carbon fibers, glass, EPDM, injection molded plastics and fabrics
Experienced with typical (Aluminum) BIW joining processes: SPR, FDS, adhesive bonding, welding, bolting, laser welding, etc.
Experience with electro-mechanical, software controlled and actuated mechanisms
Knowledgeable of CAD systems (hands-on and/or supervision) and design documentation systems (PLM, PDM, BOM’s, releases, etc.)
Experienced and efficient in interfaces and activities with the Manufacturing/Production department
Experience with managing and leading engineers, designers and contractors
Able and willing to travel domestically and/or internationally
Able and willing to travel and support production launch
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering specialized in vehicles engineering, manufacturing, mechanisms, structures
Previous planning and program management experience
Knowledge with Design for Six Sigma and Lean Concepts
Highly motivated individual with excellent communication and organizational skills
Strong leadership, decision making and problem solving skills
Ability to lead and coordinate the program and technical issues resolution
Ability to work on multiple tasks and assignments targeting meeting or exceeding the goals set up by the department Director and Company
Positive attitude and constructive approach to interfaces with others and problems solving
