OpenTable is hiring a

Senior Experience Designer, Restaurant

San Francisco, United States

What are we doing?

At OpenTable we’re reimagining how people discover and enjoy great restaurants across the world. Design is meaningful here. It helps us understand the world around us. It brings delight to the ordinary. We’re a group of designers, writers and researchers who believe that good ideas come from everywhere and collaboration is our greatest tool.

What does this role do?

We are seeking a Senior Experience Designer to help take the restaurant product experience to the next level. We’re looking for designers who can see beyond what OpenTable is today and can execute on a vision for what it could become. You’ll be creating concepts, designing and shipping mobile and web applications that millions of people use in order to find, reserve and experience restaurants.

What do you want?

If you are a systems thinker and consider high-level product vision by understanding constraints and love building a fantastic design experience, then you’ll enjoy how we work at OpenTable.

If you communicate visually and can express your ideas with skill and grace whether standing at a whiteboard, drawing on a napkin, or presenting on screen - OpenTable could be the right design environment for you.

The OpenTable design team understands that building proofs of concept and iterating helps us explore, fail and learn quickly. We work at varying levels of fidelity and are always interested in trying new tools and methods. If you are looking for flexibility in your approach to design, then OpenTable will encourage this.

What do we need?

As an experience designer: you are equal parts a visual and interaction designer. You enjoy complex design challenges, validating ideas with consumer research and building prototypes through to visual design. You care about all the details of design both on and off the screen, and have a desire to put things in the world that have a meaningful impact on people's lives and thrive in a collaborative environment that values team over titles.

  • You have an exceptional portfolio featuring examples of product design work and a link to your personal website or web portfolio.
  • Extensive experience in a related experience design role combined with a proven track record designing for mobile and web experiences.
  • Ideally, proficiency with mobile platforms, HTML and the technologies that you’re designing for, understanding how designs translate to code and ability to create production-ready assets.
  • A healthy sense of humour
