Position Description

We're looking for a frontend engineer to drive the front-end architecture and implementation of Progress, a platform that provides non-profits and social enterprises with rich data profiles to connect with grant-making foundations and other benefactors (eg, the Classy Awards!). To learn more about the Progress platform and Classy Awards, please visit

You will work closely with our designer to iterate on UX/UI, with our backend engineers to implement our product vision, and with our data scientist to understand our unique dataset and use data insights to inform user experience and product direction. Progress is a small team, so you’ll learn our problem space deeply and will have opportunities to help set the vision of how we solve interesting, challenging, real-world problems and improve how organizations, foundations, and the broader public understand and interact with each other. You will also be joining a larger dev community at Classy, where our team of talented frontend engineers build simple, easy-to-use, responsive UX on modern JS frameworks.

About You

  • You live and breathe HTML5, CSS3 and JS.
  • You are comfortable coding in vanilla JS, and have a solid understanding of its unique strengths and weaknesses.
  • You know the basics of some front-end development (e.g. gulp) and application (e.g. Angular.js) frameworks.
  • You consistently use some type of version control system (preferably GIT).
  • You know the basics of some backend language (e.g. PHP).
  • You’ve worked with many REST APIs... and may have written a few yourself.
  • You always strive for code quality and efficiency via modularity and continuous integration.
  • You are humble and constantly looking for ways to improve your development skills.
  • You are able to communicate status through issue tracking (e.g. github, JIRA).
  • You are able to estimate work well, with sufficient buffers to deliver properly QA’d work on time.

Your Responsibilities

  • You will be developing new products, new features on existing products, and maintaining existing features.
  • You will drive certain projects, working with other developers, designers and stakeholders to lead the team from design through pushing to production.
  • You will be contributing to best practices and standards for development processes.

Our awesome perks!

  • Competitive paid-time off, along with ample company paid holidays
  • Half-Day Fridays the first Friday of each month
  • Monthly parking pass, public transit pass, or Uber Allowance
  • Supplemental Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) plan
  • Employee Stock Options
  • Yoga
  • Monthly happy hours at the local watering hole
  • Love the active life? We have company and team outings and participate in team sports

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience, including equity in an early stage startup backed by top-tier VCs.
