Tomorrow.io’s Space & Sensors team is responsible for the development of unique RF and acoustic-based sensing systems, such as radar, radiometer and sonar, from architecture through implementation. The team is also responsible for the  development of corresponding spacecraft and constellations in support of Tomorrow.io’s Operation Tomorrow Space, which will collect data to be integrated seamlessly into our existing forecasting and modeling systems, revolutionizing global weather intelligence.

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Test Engineer to join a cutting edge, multidisciplinary team to help us execute complex development programs. Applications include, but are not limited to, weather and climate remote sensing, navigation and situational awareness, as well as enabling the most capable weather intelligence platform in the world.

As a Senior Hardware Test Engineer at Tomorrow.io, you will design, develop, document and maintain test infrastructure for multiple radar products & payload components being developed by Tomorrow.io. This role will be focused on supporting the electrical design, radar systems, firmware & software dev teams to develop testers for sub-system components to be used in satellite and airborne radar payloads.  The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with all tasks needed to develop Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) test systems including experience designing and programming Automated Test Equipment (ATE), virtual instrumentation software, writing test scripts, trouble-shooting, test cable harness design and writing / releasing documentation.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop, document & maintain common EGSE & other software defined radar (SDR)  test infrastructure to be deployed across multiple programs and projects
  • Design, document and build test systems by leveraging common test infrastructure to deploy multiple software defined radar (SDR) test systems either personally or by managing contractors when necessary
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of assembly, integration & test (AI&T) activities 
  • Utilize knowledge of design with standard lab equipment to troubleshoot issues that occur during test to ensure quality final product during Validation and Verification (V&V) testing 

What you bring:

  • Experience designing & building testers with automated test equipment (ATE) based on LXI, PXI, PXIe, AXIe modular instruments from National Instruments & Keysight (or equivalent)
  • Experience testing with a wide range of modular instruments & interfaces including digital multimeters (DMM), oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, vector signal generators, power, RF, 10 GigE, PCIe, RS-422, RS-232, LVDS / single ended GPIO, including test wire harness design
  • Programming ATE and virtual instrumentation using Test Execution Engine Software or custom software / scripts in multiple languages (C, C++, Java, Python, Bash, Tcl LabVIEW, Smalltalk or equivalent) as well as using standard and proprietary application programming interfaces (API)
  • Experience with Versioning Control System (Git or SVN, Gitlab or Github or similar) to version control test software & scripts
  • DevOps experience as it relates to installing ATE / virtual instrumentation software & drivers on supported operating systems & platforms
  • Experience writing test procedures and test plans for Mil / Aerospace hardware

Desired Skills

  • PCBA design & schematic capture with electronic design automation (EDA) tools - preferably Altium
  • Experience with complex hardware assembly and test (multiple subsystems integrated), ideally including spacecraft payload development
  • Radar background
