Senior IT Program Manager

Remote

As Senior Program Manager in IT, you will own the end-to-end delivery of strategic programs that are critical to enabling GitHub’s continued growth. You will join a small group of highly skilled and experienced program, project and product managers focused on solving internal problems across GitHub. You will partner with IT leadership to drive operational excellence in support of GitHub’s continued growth, spanning strategic planning and operational improvements across the organization. 

As the right candidate, you have a proven track-record delivering business and technology transformation programs in a fast-paced environment, along with the ability to articulate program vision, unite a cross-functional team, deliver against accelerated timelines, educate partners on agile practices, and proactively flag and mitigate risks. 

You also have an executive presence, are analytical and data-driven, and a strategic thinker who builds relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners/vendors. You are calm under pressure, clearly set expectations, and are results-driven. You exercise excellent judgment based on a deep understanding of GitHub’s culture and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Scope and plan delivery of IT programs in close collaboration with executive sponsors and internal stakeholders
  • Drive collaboration across IT and regular stakeholders to define program goals and define metrics of success, taking into account available resources, dependencies, budget, priorities and other constraints
  • Lead programs end-to-end, coordinating and managing the execution of work across cross-functional and globally distributed teams
  • Manage multiple programs in tandem, understanding how to juggle competing priorities
  • Develop project plans (including comprehensive timelines), which include defining milestones, tasks and activities needed to achieve project goals
  • Identify and proactively manage program risk, and collaborate with other program managers to mitigate risks across the program portfolio
  • Plan and own change management activities across a variety of projects and programs.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on program progress and risk 
  • Embody a user centric mindset to optimize for employee experience and ROI
  • Embody our ‘growth mindset’ leadership principle to drive continued improvement
  • Educate cross-functional partners on agile program best practices
  • Provide consultative reviews and support to our cross-functional partners on cross-functional efforts
  • Demonstrate a self-starter mentality, yet a team player - with a collaborative approach

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience in program, project, or product management, or any other fields related to driving large scale systems initiatives forward
  • Experience collaborating with multiple cross-functional partners or stakeholders with conflicting priorities
  • Experience facilitating change by systematically delivering iterations that impact internal workflows, services, and employee experience 
  • Experience executing programs with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in a technical program environment, with a successful track record executing highly visible projects and programs in the tech industry 
  • Working knowledge of GitHub’s products and features, specifically with Issues and Project Boards
  • Superior analytical skills and particular attention to detail with good business judgment and exceptional maturity, diplomacy, and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • You are tenacious, with the emotional intelligence to know when to escalate for support and when to look for alternative approaches

Minimum salary of $104,400 to maximum $276,900

In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role.


Location: In this role, you can work remotely from anywhere in the United States.
