Senior NGS Bioinformatician (1 year contract)

As we further our mission to democratize data-driven medicine worldwide, we are looking for a Senior NGS Bioinformatician (1 year contract) to join our growing Bioinformatic Product Development team in Rolle, Switzerland.

The Senior NGS Bioinformatician is mainly responsible for data exploration on practical questions raised during SOPHiA GENETICS product development. The dataset involved may vary regarding gene panel, sample type, gene enrichment technology, sequencing platform, etc. The exploration scope may cover quality assessment of the NGS kits/chemical performance, evaluation of the accuracy and analytical performance of SOPHiA GENETICS products and other NGS product-oriented digging-out.

Based on insights from the research, the Senior Bioinformatician is expected to contribute to the improvement and development of SOPHiA GENETICS products, e.g. by suggesting and making changes in regard to probe design, analytical tools (pipeline modules), pipeline design, etc.

This position is a 1-year fix term contract and will be focus on exciting projects which are currently about to start. Depending on the evolution of the projects, this contract could be potentially renewed.


  • Run SOPHIA GENETICS NGS pipelines in default mode;
  • Modify some scripts/modules manually for research purpose;
  • Understand the functions of each script/module in SG pipeline;
  • Carry out quality assessment and analytical performance on different chemicals or platforms by established metrics;
  • Perform data exploration on other practical questions related to product feasibility study to provide actionable insights
  • Explore new technical/biological features (e.g. UMI diversity) in deep to provide scientific insights and present the results logically;
  • Analyse dataset from collaborators and provide exploration results on time;
  • Join the discussion with collaborators for project progress and present the results;
  • Prepare NGS analysis results and present to customers and prospective clients at conferences and workshops.


  • Minimum of 4 years Post-Doc experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related field; Or PhD degree and equivalent relevant working experience.
  • Experience with the research, design and/or development of regulated medical devices is a plus
  • Strong background in cancer cell biology is a plus;
  • Extensive experience with targeted sequencing data analysis;
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills ( English is a must, any other language is an asset);

Location: Rolle, Switzerland. Office-based, including 2 days per week remote / 3 days on-site.

Start: ASAP (or as agreed)

Contract type: Fix-term contract of 1 year, based on project success. Could be renewed, depending on the evolution of the projects.
