What we are looking for: 

Beam is currently recruiting a Senior Policy Associate to provide support advocacy for local government, strategic planning, and public education. The primary focus of the Senior Policy Associate will be building and expanding relationships with councils and governments in Australia. This person will be a self-starter and able to work independently but also work closely with the ops team. This person will be required to travel across and support AU. 

What you do:

  • The primary focus will be on WA, NSW, NT councils engaging to show how Beam is a market leader. There will also be, from time to time, work across other markets in AU.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders on public policy, public relations, and communications matters.
  • Assist the organisation and delegation of tenders with team members across geographies, functions, and time zones to ensure that Beam continues delivering exceptional presentations and proposals.
  • Identify new opportunities for Beam to expand and grow across AU.
  • Write letters to councils to engage on behalf of Beam across Australia.
  • Engage and build a broad spectrum of public partnerships that support Beam’s policy goals
  • Collect intelligence on upcoming changes in legislation, policies and regulations as well as public policy
  • Build relationships for Beam among key stakeholders including Government and local councils.
  • Position Beam in relevant conversations, events, programs, and conferences that raise Beam's visibility as a thought leader and market leader in the sustainable mobility and technology sectors.
  • Assist national and international leadership on strategising on and navigating the complex landscape in AU.
  • Represent Beam in person or in writing for government interactions and consultations.
  • Help with new market launches.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in Public policy, other technology start-ups or other fast growing businesses, with extensive government relations experience.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong collaborator. We move fast and need people who are able to work well with others to make decisions.
  • Strong brand builder. You will represent Beam to both the media and the government.
  • Data driven decision maker. You are about to assimilate the wealth of data that we have and leverage it strongly to make decisions with strong conviction.
  • Able to travel regularly to meet with councils and to present at conferences and demonstrations.
  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders including National and Regional Government, Regulators, Academia, Think Tanks, Civil Society Organisations and media.
  • Strong network and strong networking capability within the industry and broader tech space. 
  • Skilled at analysing and advocating complex policy positions before a wide variety of audiences, persuasively and diplomatically
  • Adapt to building relationships at the individual level and coalitions at the organisation level.
  • Ability to understand and break down complicated and nuanced issues from a policy, business and relationship perspective.
  • Must be able to look at the macro and micro level of such policy issues.
