Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Verisign enables the security, stability, and resiliency of key internet infrastructure and services, including providing root zone maintainer services, operating two of the 13 global internet root servers, and providing registration services and authoritative resolution for the .com and .net top-level domains, which support the majority of global e-commerce.

This position is part of a team of engineers who are responsible for the operation of Verisign's Private Cloud Infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for installing, maintaining and configuring Production and Non-Production tools and services to support Verisign's private cloud environment in multiple data centers
  • Responsibility areas include network, storage, operating system, server hardware, and automation tools
  • Responsible for daily operations support including problem isolation and resolution
  • Responsible for installing and maintaining Kubernetes clusters hosted atop a private cloud infrastructure
  • Responsible in supporting the platform in a 24x7 environment as a member of an on-call rotation

Our ideal candidate will have a blend of impeccable technical skills and the desire to grow both technically and professionally.  This is not a simple DevOps Role. The team does not deploy customers applications, but instead manages, engineers, and operates a private cloud platform.

Technical must-haves:

  • Hands-on experience maintaining infrastructure services, preferably with either a private or public cloud provider

OR

  • Hands-on experience maintaining a Kubernetes infrastructure for end-users to run workloads on
  • Exemplary Unix system administration and Linux networking experience
  • Understanding of infrastructure-as-code
  • Understanding of large-scale distributed systems
  • Candidate should have previous automation experience and be able to demonstrate that

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of experience developing and operating mission-critical systems
  • Excellent understanding of Linux configuration and administration
  • Previous experience with development in Python
  • Experience with automation- Not just developing automation, but knowing why we automate and what to automate 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – able to clearly and succinctly describe complex issues
  • Familiarity with networking protocols and systems
