Spring is hiring a

Senior UX Designer

New York, United States

Welcome to Spring: we're taking the idea of a 24/7 marketplace and bringing this to life through beautifully designed web and mobile apps. Our platform enables brands and consumers to connect in new ways and, since launching in 2013, we've quickly become known as the place to shop. It's an exciting time to join.

Spring is a mobile first company that cares about design, about delighting our customers (brands and consumers), and about building usable products. We're currently partnering with over 1,000 amazing brands and have steadily increased the number of users on our platform. We have big plans (more growth! more users! new markets!) and we're growing our different Teams as a result.

Product Design is a small team and integral part of Spring. We're looking for Senior UX Designers to join up and help us realize many of the goals we have on our roadmap.

The Team:

Because of our tiny size, designers wear many hats: one day you could be working on user research and testing, the next day you could be focused solely on wire-framing new product specs. Our designers are able to jump seamlessly from the aesthetics of designing visuals to discussions around typography, color and layout.

As a UX Designer on Spring's Team you'll ask and answer questions like:

  • How do we tell stories about brands and products in clean and thoughtful ways?
  • What is the best way to integrate this new feature into our existing architecture?
  • How should we use our branding to highlight this important feature?
  • Customer onboarding... what is the best way to do it?
  • Based on research, I know this UX will resonate with 18-34 year olds. Would my grandma say the same thing?
  • How can we alter the interaction design of this page to make it even easier for consumers to find what they are looking for?
  • This color looks....off, would cyan work better?

Beautiful, effective design is integral to Spring’s brand and customer experience. Our design team takes a highly collaborative approach to solving design challenges, and is perpetually sketching and prototyping while striving to perfect our pixels.

 You will:

  • Innovate on existing features. The internet and end users change at lightening speed and we need to constantly update our apps to keep up with demands
  • Partner with other teams (engineering, marketing, integrations) to kick off and finish projects
  • Utilize your deep knowledge of experience design to optimize our current UX. Your goal is to reduce friction anywhere you see it
  • Play a role in setting the vision for new products and features
  • Guide other members of the team and serve as a mentor for junior hires
  • Produce beautiful, usable products

What you need to have:

  • 5+ years experience in senior-ish roles involving interaction design/UX, visual design/UI, and/or information architecture
  • Mobile experience strongly preferred
  • The uncanny ability to work collaboratively across disciplines including product strategy, engineering, and marketing
  • The confidence to speak your mind and the eloquence to do so effectively
  • An understanding of CSS and html. You don't need to be an expert, but you should be willing to learn
  • Javascript is a nice to have but, as above, we're looking more the aptitude to learn
  • Fluency with design and prototyping tools, and bonus points if you can wield pen and paper
  • Humble, self-aware, and flexible
  • Solid logic and reasoning skills; you enjoy demo-ing and talking through your designs
  • An inclination toward learning and teaching
  • A deep appreciation for workplace comedy
