ShopStyle Lead Data Engineer

ShopStyle, the leading fashion search engine, is looking for an ambitious backend engineer to join our team. ShopStyle attracts 18 million monthly users. We're building the next generation of social shopping with the best quality content and user experience in the market.

Our data team builds and operates a sophisticated processing platform to exploit the vast volume of data that ShopStyle produces. We analyze streaming and batch data to enrich our users’ shopping experience, and also to support business operations. Ongoing data engineering projects at ShopStyle include product recommendations, guided search, product scoring, and many more!

As our Lead Data Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting updates to that platform. You will also lead the development efforts of the team, managing the development cycle from requirements to delivery. If you’re an experienced data engineer with leadership skills, and want to own a cutting-edge data processing platform, then this role is for you.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Architect improvements to ShopStyle’s data processing platform
  • Lead the software development lifecycle of new processing jobs and data pipelines
  • Work with data scientists and other business members to develop requirements for data engineering projects
  • Manage more junior members of the development team

Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science or demonstrated sustained success in the software engineering field
  • Competent Scala programmer
  • Experience with Spark
  • At least 5 years of work experience as a software engineer
  • At least 3 years of work experience as a data engineer
  • Working knowledge of both relational and document-oriented database systems
  • Basic knowledge of Machine Learning techniques and algorithms
  • Project management experience and interpersonal skills
  • Experience as a team lead/manager/mentor

Nice to have:

  • Java programming expertise
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience with Cassandra, MongoDB, and Postgres
