Site Reliability Engineer

As a site reliability engineer on the technology team you will be responsible for helping developers build, test, and deploy systems that run our production environment.

You will have a broad understanding of modern application design and deployment best practices, be comfortable testing systems to ensure those best practices are followed and have the communication skills necessary to help the rest of the team understand what needs to be done. You should be able to quantify risk in a way which makes sense for the scale and importance of the campaign and be able to work with all levels of the campaign.

Role Overview & Day-to-Day

  • As a member of the HFA Tech Team, you’ll be peers with our application, frontend, and backend engineers. SREs also work directly with our digital organizers, analytics team, and product managers.
  • This role will be intense! Supporting a tech team thats developing fast and gets tons of attention months means that there will be tough tradeoffs, fascinating failures, rapid recoveries, and Presidential Possibilities.
  • On-site, based in Brooklyn NY


  • Manage systems in AWS and other third-party vendors
  • Advising teams on application/cloud-oriented architecture and best-practices
  • Crafting policies and practices that balance safety with the rapid scaling of our infrastructure and organization
  • Being a member of the HFA pager rotation


  • An understanding of the challenges and advantages of cloud infrastructure and in agile/DevOps environments
  • Scripting experience (esp. with Python)
  • An understanding of modern deployment tools like Travis, Git, Docker, etc.
  • Deep understanding HTTP serving architecture.
  • Fearless calm in the face of large scale, yet always uneasy and skeptical.
