Overview:

On Deck is building a platform that aggregates data to connect capital with small business owners trying to grow their business.  Our heavily automated platform using the latest in technology allows us to quickly and efficiently provide funding to customers who have long suffered from lack of access to traditional financing models e.g. restaurants, barber shops, convenience stores, etc. We're trying to bring an engineering perspective to the field of lending and are always looking for talented technical problem solvers to join our team.

The Decision Services team builds OnDeck's proprietary Scoring & Underwriting decisioning platform using open-source technologies, a RESTful service-oriented architecture and a data-driven approach. These services collect third-party data and execute credit models to make an automated, real-time and effective lending decision for our customers across all channels & customer types. We welcome out-of-the-box thinking, resourcefulness and desire to innovate directed toward helping the company become an absolute leader in online loans to small businesses.

As a Software Engineer, you will build:
  • Data Pipelines: Making data easily accessible in real-time between our Production systems, DW, Analytics systems, etc.
  • Data Processing Platform: A reliable platform to consume, transform, process & store Big Data & make it available to other systems via REST APIs
  • New data sources: Integrating with new third-party APIs (both social & commercial) for credit decisioning
  • Sophisticated decision flows: Integrating with more sophisticated credit models & decision flows to support different use-cases
  • New products: Supporting OnDeck's new products/offerings in an automated manner for decisioning
Qualifications for success:
  • You have extensive experience with Java & related technologies, Databases (SQL & NoSQL), XML/JSON data wrangling & testing frameworks
  • You have experience designing flexible & reusable software using OO & functional style & easy-to-use RESTful APIs
  • You are passionate about technology and have a craftsman mindset toward building great software
  • You practice XP practices like TDD, Code reviews & Continuous Integration
  • Experience with platform development in multiple languages is a plus
  • You are comfortable working in an agile development environment
  • You are a quick learner & can easily pick up new technologies & dive deep into them
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • You are a team-player helping the team write awesome software
