Role summary:

Lantern is looking for an experienced engineer to help us build the future of mental health care. You’ll be working daily on our backend APIs that power our mobile applications as well as our internal coaching tools that enable coaches to deliver value to our users. As a core team member you will share responsibility for owning product features and architectural decisions that enable Lantern to break the common misconception that technology is too impersonal to be useful in mental health. Our stack makes use of Ruby, Rails, React, Angular, and the other usual suspects. 


  • Build new and innovative product features
  • Maintain high quality product and coding standards
  • Take ownership of projects including interactions with designers, fellow engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders
  • Help make architectural decisions for new and existing product features.


  • 3+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience writing JSON APIs in Ruby.
  • Experience writing well tested code in Ruby and Javascript.
  • Experience building rich client experiences using either Angular or React + Flux.
  • Experience in understanding large and complex code bases, including API design techniques to help keep them clean and maintainable.
  • Bonus Points for the following:
    • Understanding of Rails internals.
    • Experience using RSpec for TDD.
    • Experience setting up and using continuous integration tooling.
    • Experience doing DevOps on AWS.
