Software Engineering Manager

 

We are looking for Software Engineering Managers to join our team. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for overseeing a development team as well as leading cross-team initiatives and projects, such as training, quality, scalability or new user experience.

You will have the opportunity to shape a growing tech team and build a collaborative, respectful culture, making the working environment enjoyable for everyone.

The successful candidate will have a track record of creating an identity for a team and of defining how teams work within a larger organisation. They will have mastered the ability to delegate both small and large assignments and ensure that desired outcomes are achieved, even without oversight. The successful candidate will also be a strong proponent of continuous improvement and able to upskill their teams.

This role is based in our Oxford HQ, Manchester or London office and can be worked in a hybrid manner combining in-person collaboration within the office and remote/home working.

Your day-to-day work will include: 

 

  • Manage, mentor and support your team.
  • Create clarity, communicate team vision, strategy and progress, best practices and facilitate training, establish team culture with emphasis on quality, customer love, and engineering agility, removing barriers and enabling the team to be productive.
  • Consistently assess, reward and manage the growth of the whole team to achieve the most in their careers.
  • Set a culture of craftsmanship within the team and help teams make long-term architectural decisions.
  • Own the engineering process and practices that the team is adhering to and drive continuous improvement in the ways of working.
  • Ensure that technology services which the team is responsible for are meeting their service level objectives, and technical risks are appropriately managed.
  • You take the initiative and find creative ways to get work done.
  • You’re open minded, committed to the success of all your colleagues, and you are a positive person to be around.
  • You put the customer at the heart of your work and strive to create an exceptional customer experience.

 

About You 

Experience is one thing but potential is far more important so, even if you lack some of the skills listed below, we still really want to hear from you. 

 

Must have requirements: 

  • Passionate about technology, leadership and delivering software.
  • Proven experience of building/leading engineering teams and people management.
  • Enjoy coaching and mentoring people to realise their full potential.
  • Expertise in Agile software development, continuous delivery, TDD and pair programming.

 

Nice to have requirements: 

  • Experience within a fast growing technology company.
  • Experience building consumer technology.
  • Scrum Master experience.
  • Cloud experience, particularly AWS.
  • Although not a hands-on engineering role, a strong understanding of up to date frameworks and technologies such as Java, NodeJS and Salesforce.
