The PDF Pipelines Team

Our customers send their HTML and PDF creative to Lob and the PDF Pipelines team makes sure that our printers produce exactly what our customers expect. The team is responsible for accurately handling millions of asset files per day, and this team is key to ensuring high quality and performance of our product offering as we scale.

We mostly build in Node.js and C++. All of our services run on AWS, with a lot of SQS and Lambda workloads. We are currently re-architecting major parts of our implementation, and are looking for help building them right for the next 10-100x of scale. As an Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Partner closely with the Product team and other stakeholders to help implement new features and services
  • Be responsible for leading projects from design to implementation
  • Coach, mentor, grow and support your direct reports
  • Work with other Engineering leaders to support and grow the culture of our engineering team

For this role, we're looking for...

  • A “move fast, take action” mentality. We have a very successful product and our customers have high expectations for their mail quality. Meeting their expectations sometimes requires us to quickly adapt and learn and implement new technologies.
  • Experience leading teams of engineers on technical projects. We’ll want to hear how your teammates developed and grew under your leadership.
  • Full-stack (database, backend, and frontend) experience in a modern technology stack. You were an experienced software engineer before becoming a manager.
  • Knowledge of at least one mainstream programming language, including being able to write, read, and understand code in that language. We use Node.js, Go and Elixir at Lob.
  • Great communication skills. You should be able to explain your approach and the impact of your work to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a way that is clear to all.
