About the Role:
Spreedly is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead one of our product feature teams. As a Software Engineering Manager at Spreedly, you will contribute to setting team strategy and ensuring engineering OKRs are consistently met. We value ownership and accountability while building the products that enable us to contribute to the ongoing and ever-changing development of an open payments platform.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of 6 senior & mid-level backend engineers
- Drive the improvement of engineering standards, tooling, and processes to enhance team productivity and product quality.
- Collaborate with product managers, internal stakeholders, and customers to deliver solutions that meet user needs and business objectives.
- Ensure the team meets our commitments to ship quality software, and clearly communicate across the product team and company regarding key milestones or any challenges to our commitments.
- Proactively share context with the team, help the team connect the dots of their work with broader company initiatives
- Manage responsibilities to ensure the team effectively delivers a highly available service to customers.
- Help build a diverse team while promoting a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Requirements:
- An experienced leader with 3+ years of Engineering Management experience, leading backend teams in high-growth startups, with a proven track record in delivering high-quality technical solutions and managing critical production infrastructure
- Is well-versed in transaction processing systems, with an understanding of how card transactions interact with broader financial systems, ensuring service reliability for SLAs; Experience in Fintech, Payments, or Gateway software product delivery is highly desirable
- A process-oriented thinker striving to improve and standardize the SDLC using Agile industry best practices
- Has utilized the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.) to manage teams via Scrum and Kanban; Certified Scrum Master (CSM) is a big plus
- Has utilized LinearB, Jellyfish, or Allstacks to help unlock insights and automation to improve teams performance
- Managed software/service development and/or full lifecycle ownership experience with additional languages, frameworks, and tools (Ruby, Rails, Elixir, JavaScript, Vue.js, Phoenix, CRDB, Heroku, Postgres, Kafka, AWS)
- Demonstrated understanding of Project Management processes, strategies, and methods; Project management certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are a plus
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize and achieve roadmap goals to achieve company goals
- Has a strategic mindset and is adept at navigating the complexities of integrating diverse technologies
- Experience scaling teams (onshore and offshore) to support product development and business needs
- Can analyze data to create clear and concise insights that support and advocate for measurable improvements
- Is empathetic and effective in leadership; thrives on mentoring and building cohesive teams
