Role Overview

As a single-threaded Engineering Leader for Coupang Eats Merchant Systems, you will be responsible for overseeing the engineering team that owns the services for the hundreds of thousands of Merchants which directly impacts the Selection for the millions of Customers who order on the Coupang Eats platform. You will closely partner with the business stakeholders, product management, product design, data analytics and other engineering leaders to build and deliver the technical/engineering roadmap of your teams. You will participate in technical design and planning while providing guidance for engineers to ensure they execute well every day. Finally, as we're scaling rapidly, you'll have lots of opportunities to build and grow the team via hiring and mentoring.

In this role, you will:

  • Build and manage a highly efficient engineering organization
  • Align with stakeholders and lead engineers on mission critical projects to resolve complex business problems
  • Envision roadmaps for the scalable and robust growth of Eats ecosystem
  • Drive the highest quality of architecture and design of services
  • Decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions
  • Deep-dive and handle critical system issues
  • Collaborate with other Coupang tech teams to make the service extensible to unlock opportunities for innovations

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • At least 7+ years of experience in designing, building and deploying scalable, highly available services developed in Java and database environment
  • At least 5+ years for leading an engineering team handling large volume of data transactions
  • Proven track record of leading teams for delivering mission critical systems
  • Ability to relocate to Seoul for this opportunity
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to think strategically, with exceptional skills in diving deep and raising the bar for engineering and operational excellence
  • Experience with cloud computing with AWS
  • Experience in Food or Grocery Delivery, e-commerce or O2O industry
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and leading the delivery of large-scale services for complex business offerings

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS or higher degree in related area
  • At least 6+ years of relevant marketing experience.
  • Work well independently and be at the same time a good collaborative team player
  • Experience in understanding customer needs and create events and content that drive high customer experience
  • Track record in working in an environment with fast turnaround
  • Strong organizational skills, be self-motivated, confident, energetic, and creative
  • Motivated to continuously improve guides and standards
