Sr. Sales/Solutions Engineer - IoT

Twilio is seeking a Solutions Engineer to empower new customers to succeed with one of our most anticipated products - Programmable Wireless. In entering the wireless space, Twilio will begin on-boarding creators of connected devices. We need someone to help understand this new customer profile, ensure that our product roadmap resonates with the market and that prospective customers have the tools and information they need to take their products to market quickly and successfully. The ideal candidate will be a “product thinker” who is passionate about connected devices, the Internet of Things and the intersection of machine-to-machine, machine-to-human and human-to-human communications.

You will be joining a new business unit at Twilio. You can expect this role to feel like a “startup within a startup”. Success in this role will therefore require a willingness to embrace ambiguity and propose innovative solutions to problems that may never have been solved before.

About the job:

Solutions Engineers at Twilio are involved in all stages of the customer’s product development lifecycle. They are comfortable using presentations, sample code and remote consultation to guide customers along their journey. We are looking for someone who can understand the goals of prospective customers and create content that resonates with developers, Product Managers and C-level executives. This role involves typically 10 - 25% travel, including international.


  • Identify and engage with early customers in the IoT and connected device space.
  • Prepare demos and proof of concepts.
  • Educate customers on the technical parameters of Twilio's Programmable Wireless product and the possible solutions this unlocks for their business.
  • Create technical content to show customers how to implement specific use cases while employing best practices.
  • Work together with customers through the design, development and rollout of their specific connected device project - from prototype to production management.
  • Distill and communicate customer needs and product feedback to Product Management, Engineering, Marketing and Business Development.
  • Document the architectural and engineering decisions that customers have successfully employed and use this knowledge to educate future Programmable Wireless customers.


  • 5+ years in a customer-facing technical role.
  • A strong understanding of the device lifecycle. First-hand experience in one or more of: product design and development; manufacturing; provisioning; installation and configuration; activation, deactivation and maintenance; recall and retirement.
  • A world class communicator. Confident dispensing knowledge to a highly skilled and experienced audience including C-level executives.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Bonus points:

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:, web development, mobile development, telecommunications and real-time communications.
  • Experience in an agile software development environment.
  • An advanced degree in a relevant field.
