Khan Academy is hiring a

Strategy Analyst

Mountain View, United States

Khan Academy is a fast-paced, nonprofit startup on a mission to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. We already reach millions of students every month and are growing rapidly.

Many of our investments are in the direct to learner space, i.e., they target learners directly, rather than through schools. We’re bringing increasing focus to that space and want to be sure we’re taking an informed, analytical approach. That’s where you come in.

As Strategy Analyst, you’ll be the ultimate owner of all strategy and analysis for direct to learner investments at Khan Academy. Your work will be critical for keeping the entire team well-informed and able to make smart decisions. We’re looking for a team player who is as excited about empowering others as they are about doing their own high-impact analyses. This is the perfect role for someone who wants to continue to grow their analytical skills as well as the strategic thinking and communication skills required to drive meaningful impact through research and analysis.

Your work will fit into two major categories:

  • Analyzing the consumer education technology space
    • Sizing the market overall and understanding which segments are growing and why
    • Staying on top of the latest research and ideas/debates
    • Understanding and having a perspective on the hottest products and players
  • Evaluating potential investments
    • Sizing the market and estimating our share for various investments we’re considering
    • Developing and using a consistent methodology for projecting the impact of potential investments on our core metrics to inform the overall direct to learner strategy
    • Using your understanding of the competitive landscape and Khan Academy’s strengths to generate ideas and make compelling cases for new potential investments

  • At least 2 years of experience in a highly analytical strategy role (e.g., management consulting, finance). Experience in education technology or consumer internet is a major plus
  • A knack for asking the right questions, then answering them with sound data and analysis
  • A proven track record of bringing structure to nebulous problems and making actionable recommendations even when perfect data isn’t available
  • Fluency with Excel and the ability to quickly learn new tools. Basic SQL skills are a plus
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, visual)
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, including a high tolerance for ambiguity, a penchant for experimentation, and a bias towards action
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent time management
  • A passion for Khan Academy’s mission of a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere and a desire to change the world
  • The ability to work full time from our offices in Mountain View, CA

We may be a non-profit, but we reward our talented team well!

  • Highly competitive salaries and annual bonuses
  • Ample paid time off as needed – we’re about getting things done, not face time
  • Delicious catered lunch daily plus tons of snacks and beverages
  • 401(k) + 4% matching
  • Comprehensive insurance including medical, dental, vision, and life
  • The opportunity to work on high-impact content that's already defining the future of education
  • Great location: walking distance to Caltrain and downtown Mountain View
  • The ability to improve real lives
  • A fun, high-caliber team that trusts you and gives you the freedom to be brilliant
