System Software - Core OS

Job overview:

The Core OS team develops the critical software platform that brings eero hardware products to life and supports application development. Team members work across the organization, focusing on productization of the Core OS, but also providing the necessary APIs, services, and control on-device for hardware development and software feature teams. This role requires depth in software core competencies, along with an strong interest in working core daemons and libraries, network configuration, network security features, and contributions back to the open source community. For those interested, there are also opportunities to work in kernel and device driver development. What you’ll do

  • Build out a software platform that is flexible enough to span multiple hardware products
  • Implement new product features on eero devices, collaborating with the mesh firmware, mobile applications, and cloud teams
  • Design and implement APIs and services to enable development of off-device applications
  • Collaborate with Customer Support to investigate field issues
  • Get involved with the open source community

We’re looking for someone who

  • Obsesses over the details and knows how to bring implementations to completion
  • Possesses a solid understanding of C, git, the GNU toolchain, and Python
  • Has the experience to anticipate problems that arise in consumer product and software development. You recognize long-range risks and know how to mitigate them.
  • Is curious. You get excited about learning new things. You ask lots of questions and go searching for answers. Geeking out is part of what makes it fun to come to work.
  • Has 5+ years of experience in Linux system software development
  • BSCS / BSCE or equivalent.

Bonus Points

  • Experience developing, debugging, or porting Linux device drivers
  • Experience developing and debugging Linux kernel code
  • Firmware development experience, preferably on ARM processors
  • Prior experience with development of embedded systems or consumer products
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols, including IEEE 802.11, TCP/IP, firewalls, and network security
