We are currently seeking a System Engineer to join our Libraries and Education team who can help to build out, maintain, and troubleshoot customers’ infrastructure.

As a successful applicant, you will demonstrate excellent technical competence, reliability in delivering critical infrastructure, and continually ensure the highest levels of accessibility, optimization, and security.

Your skills and experience

  • 4 to 6 years of experience in system administration, including installing, configuring and troubleshooting Windows server-based environments, Active Directory, GPO, anti-virus etc, as well Linux based servers running on Ubuntu.
  • Experience with Azure
  • Strong networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS)
  • Knowledge with SQL Server administration
  • Experienced in virtualisation and containerisation (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Able to administer and perform tuning of application stacks (e.g. Tomcat, Apache, NGINX)
  • Hands-on experience with scripting is highly regarded

A day in the life…

  • Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure.
  • Oversight of infrastructure including installing, configuring, testing and maintaining operating systems, application software, network appliances and system management tools
  • provide 2nd and 3rd level support and managing tickets
  • You will work with developers to implement and deploy fixes and security vendors to resolve security audit issues and perform hardening on server infrastructure
  • Continual management and maintenance of security, including backup and redundancy strategies, as well as monthly patch deployment and firmware upgrades
  • Manage the renewal of licenses and certificates for server appliances
