TEAM SUMMARY

The End User Services Team (EUS) is the first point of contact for all Information Technology computing incidents and requests.  EUS is responsible for installing, deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting issues with computing systems and peripherals for internal users. The team is1 also responsible for testing new hardware and software and determining company computing standards. EUS provides off-hours phone and email support on a weekly on-call rotation.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for design, installation and operational troubleshooting associated with existing operating system and client system application deployment and reporting technologies.  The Systems Engineer is an expert in many technologies and is responsible for providing consultative (tier 3) support regarding the development, design, installation, maintenance, and operations training of operating system and client application deployment systems in the company. These systems include Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) Server and its related deployment and reporting facilities, Active Directory Group Policy, creating customized application deployment techniques, and writing deployment and reporting scripts.  Significant technical challenges, projects and problems are involved with performing this role.  This engineer will provide systems deployment design knowledge and advice to company and project managers, other engineers, programmers, technicians, and contractors.  Determination and creativity are required in order to succeed in this role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Provides project design, including software, equipment lists, and documentation, to project teams based on technology consideration and customer requirements and preferences.  Exhibits creative and challenging problem solving skills in the designs.
  • Defines, plans, and directs systems requirements and functionality.  This function includes the investigation and analysis of new software and hardware products or their enhancements to existing products.  It will also include developing standardized documentation for communicating deployed systems to others.
  • Coordinates on a regular basis with members of project teams to ensure that technology needs and requirements are communicated and considered at the appropriate time in the project’s life cycle.
  • Coordinates with contractors to ensure that projects are completed on time, on budget, and according to Vulcan’s and Operation’s standards and procedures.
  • Works closely with other engineers in generating detailed conceptual designs, and creates appropriate documentation for these designs.
  • Provides technical support including scheduled on-call rotations and problem resolution during installation and operation of software deployment systems and the deployment of applications which might impact customer base.
  • Responsible for setting workstation security practices for the company in collaboration with the Server Operations and Network Services engineers.
  • Assists in technology procurement by researching and providing product specifications, product support, and information on new technologies.  Stays up to date on current state-of-the-art technologies and solutions.
  • Develops and communicates companywide system design standards and utilizes international standards where applicable.
  • Demonstrates honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, experience, skill, and/or ability

Required

  • Experience with enterprise client application deployment methods, techniques, and principles
  • In-depth scripting experience (VB Script, C Script, MS PowerShell, Batch, Perl, other)
  • In-depth Microsoft Active Directory group policy knowledge
  • In-depth experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • In-depth experience with Windows Client Patch Management
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Client Operating Systems, Windows Registry and their uses
  • Advanced Client End-Point troubleshooting techniques and principles pertaining to, but not limited to, telecommunications, network connectivity, and client software

Preferred

  • In-depth knowledge of Mac OS X Management, OS and software deployment, Patch Management

Other Skills

Knowledge of general office practices, procedures and equipment; extreme professionalism and communication skills; ability to prioritize tasks and work independently; strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills; and experience interacting with senior level management.

Education/experience/

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) and 5 plus years of related professional experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special remarks regarding work environment

Travel: Both International and Domestic travel required.  Total travel less than 10%.

Language Ability: Ability to read general operational manuals or governmental regulations and safety documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and update procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to requests and questions from managers, supervisors, and co-workers.

Math Ability: Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
