Technical Writer - Avionics, Radiation Effects

Responsibilities:

  • Compose reports from Radiation test results for both already-completed testing and for ongoing new testing
  • Overhaul and restructure both the formatting and the content flow of a large body of Radiation Test Reports, including using the procedure release process and structure in place
  • Vastly improve the current test report templates and other Radiation templates, including by creating macros to automate tasks
  • Overhaul and restructure formal post-flight reports as needed
  • Assemble existing data into new post-flight reports as needed
  • Collaboratively develop and negotiate the release of Control Plans that set company-wide radiation design guidelines and handling standards
  • Bring multiple talents to bear on innovating solutions for special projects and on improving processes and workflows.
  • Ensure the architecture between the database and technical workflow are well established.
  • Create end-user documentation, including how-to guides and instructional manuals, that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience
  • Maintain record of documents and revise as new issues/developments arise.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Worked as a Technical Writer at SpaceX for at least 90 days.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience is acceptable

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Expert-level skills with Microsoft Word and Excel, proficiency with PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio
  • Proficiency with the Python Programming Language.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Professional
  • Capacity to read and understand technical drawings and schematics
  • Strong analytical, computer, communication, and writing skills (typing, spelling, grammar)
  • Meticulous attention to detail: both detailed content and detailed following of procedures
  • Ability to distinguish between higher-priority and lower-priority projects
  • Ability to quickly adapt or re-design any project or workflow to meet changing requirements
  • Self-driven, innovative approach; willingness to seek answers on your own, to pursue learning from others, and to contribute to the development of your team
  • Innovative talent and a motivation to suggest automation and restructuring of tasks; perhaps they don’t need to be done that way at all
  • Constant insane curiosity about how to improve things

Additional Requirements:

  • Working extended hours and weekends as needed.
