Trade Compliance Associate, US and Canada

As an integral member of the Continental Tire the Americas, LLC (“CTA”) Global Trade Compliance team, the U.S./Canada Trade Compliance Specialist will perform the day-to-day operations to ensure Continental’s compliance with U.S. and Canadian import and export regulations.   The Specialist will report to the U.S. and Canada Trade Compliance Manager to support the Regional Trade Compliance Department.  

This person will liaise with U.S. and Canada Customs Brokers, Freight Forwarders, vendors, external customers, and internal business groups on trade-related import and export activities. The Specialist will support the company’s global trade growth and regulatory compliance perspective and collaborate with Regional Trade Compliance and Logistics Department to foster compliance within global trade mitigating the company’s risk.

  • Assign U.S. and Canadian import and export classifications (e.g. HTS, ECCN, Schedule B codes, etc.) to items imported by Continental Tire  
  • Issue certificates of origin for all products made in the U.S. and/or request certificates from Continental subsidiaries, vendors and suppliers
  • Support cross-border supply chain projects
  • Conduct and/or support qualification analysis of finished goods and components for Free Trade Programs (FTA) within U.S. and Canada, including but not limited to NAFTA, AUFSTA, KORUS, AGOA, GSP, CETA, etc.
  • Manage group mailbox requests and conduct research on missing documents, OGA requests, classification and other broker or Continental employee questions/requests
  • Support the Trade Compliance Manager in development and implementation of the company’s Global Trade Compliance Program and documented procedures
  • Screening of export transaction against U.S. and Canadian Export Regulations
  • Develop and drive improvements that help support auditing and reporting capabilities
  • Work with the Quality, Engineering, and Compliance teams in the U.S. to ensure that imports into Canada and the U.S. meet other government agency requirements (e.g., DOT, NHTS, EPA, FDA, etc.)
  • Support the Trade Compliance Manager with value reconciliation entries for U.S. and Canada
  • Conduct audits of import entries for accuracy
  • Monitor and update monthly KPIs  

BASIC:

  • Bachelors Degree OR if no degree must have 2+ years of relevant work experience and a HS Diploma
  • Experience with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge of international documents 
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize own tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate and communicate with other internal departments
  • Ability to effectively engage with others within the organization to develop and deploy effective solutions
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to set and carry out strategic goals
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Legal Authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas now or in the future for this job opening
  • Relocation can not be offered

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with SAP or other ERP system
  • Experience with OCR EASE, GTS and or other Trade Compliance Management software 
  • Familiar with  Antidumping \ Countervailing duties and assist processes and regulations
