Overview

Katapult based at Betaworks in NYC is developing a wildly creative life-building sandbox survival game currently in Early Access, called CHKN.  We are looking for a full-time contract/freelance programmer or paid intern to join the team with potential for staff position.  We are open to remote within or outside NYC.  The Unity Game Developer will perform game programming and debugging tasks to improve player experience for the live game for PC.  Responsibilities include both resolving bugs in the live game working through customer support to address player reported issues, playtesting as well as programming new gameplay features, functionality, UX and integrating new art.  The role will work collaboratively with the team across departments with art, design, engineering and customer support.

 

Responsibilities

  • Program game play feature and functionality code as directed by the team leads
  • Integrate game art and test with the art team
  • Perform focused testing based on assigned test cases and ad hoc testing to provide feedback on game play related issues
  • Identify game defects (bugs), generate written reports that detail the test result findings with accurate complete steps, and diagnose root cause
  • Regress previously identified issues in order to verify defects / bugs have been addressed and no longer occurring
  • Maintain bug tracking system for live game issues
  • Test to verify features, functionality, and performance for a live game
  • Interact with various departments to resolve issues and prioritize Live Issues.
  • Work directly with our player base in troubleshooting and testing issues that arise within in a live video game

 

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in C based languages
  • Strong data structures, logic, and algorithm skills
  • Good command of object oriented programming skill
  • Demonstrable self-motivation, self-learning and organizational skills
  • Good working knowledge of scripting tools and game editors
  • Passion for playing and creating games
  • Willingness to do what it takes to get things done, a team player
  • Strong communication skills
  • Inquisitive mindset with excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Take initiative to solve tough problems
  • Minimum 2 years experience building software with Unity (games or other)
