Overview

Katapult based at Betaworks in NYC is developing a wildly creative life-building sandbox survival game currently in Early Access on Steam, called CHKN.  We are looking for a senior level, full-time contract/freelance programmer to join the team with potential for staff position.  We are open to remote within or outside NYC.  The Unity Game Developer will perform game programming for new features, multiplayer networking, procedural generation and AI algorithms for an innovative sandbox survival PC game.  The role will work collaboratively with a dynamic and creative development team.

Responsibilities

  • Implement game functionality per game design and specifications from the leadership team (character control, AI, gui, art integration, animation systems, procedural world generation, etc.)
  • Create clear, efficient high quality code
  • Produce technical documentation that can be clearly communicated
  • Optimize game performance
  • Create Unity specific tools for game designers / graphic designers / technical artists

Requirements

  • BA/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in Unity and C# scripting
  • Strong data structures, logic, algorithm and object oriented programming skills
  • Excellent mathematical skills
  • Demonstrable self-motivation and self-learning skills
  • Ability to work in fast paced “live operations” environment with active build release schedule
  • Passion for playing and creating games
  • Broad knowledge of games across different platforms
  • Willingness to do what it takes to get things done, a team player
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills, ability to remain focused
  • Self-motivated and self-managing with ability to work remotely
  • Experience with networked game programming for multiplayer

Desired Skills & Pluses

  • Have shipped at least one commercial Unity game for PC
  • Good understanding of game design fundamentals
  • Understanding of game analytics and applying metrics to game design
  • Understanding of agile scrum methodology
  • Experience working as a member of a remote team
  • Experience with console development
