The role

Agile Six is looking for two UX Researcher / Designers who have a breadth of UX knowledge with expertise in people-first user research and design. You will collaborate with your new diverse cross-disciplinary teams to champion user-centric design principles and research, design and implement highly complex projects for government agencies and the people they serve. Among your responsibilities will be to communicate your insights and solutions to both team members and key stakeholders at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). You have an adaptive, empathetic, and collaborative mindset and care deeply about team dynamics. Your focus will be on creating meaningful and efficient experiences that align with the project's objectives and deadlines. Most importantly, you have a passion for working on important problems that have a lasting impact on millions of users and make a difference in our government!

Role 1: CHAMPVA (Civilian Health and Medical Program)

You will be joining a new cross-functional team partnering with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to digitize the eligibility application and claims submission processes for Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA), the Foreign Medical Program, and the Camp Lejeune Family Member Program, and build them on VA.gov. As the team will be building forms for VA.gov, the forms will be made to use VA.gov’s existing design system, content style guide, and forms system.

Role 2: VSO & Claims Fast Tracking 

You will be joining a new cross-functional team partnering with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to help VA start building accredited-representative-facing tools, aiming for the high levels of effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction for Veterans on VA.gov. Additionally we will ensure that the claims submitted digitally by both Veterans, and accredited representatives, are maximally actionable and minimally burdensome for VA employees who evaluate those claims.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement research activities collaboratively with the team.
    • Observe users at various touch points throughout the experience, identifying pain points and problem areas and proposing changes and improvements.
    • Analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to generate meaningful insights and behavioral patterns.
    • Facilitate workshops with groups of clients and stakeholders to discover insights and thoroughly understand all aspects and constraints of the problem space.
  • Define and deliver customer journeys, user flows, wireframes, low-fidelity concepts and high-fidelity design documents.
    • Clearly articulate your vision through verbal and written explanations, presentations, concept sketching or quick mock-ups to small or large groups, from designers to the leadership team to a range of disciplines throughout the VA.
    • Communicate tradeoffs of different processes and design approaches while sometimes working with incomplete or vague requirements.
    • Provide guidance for visual UI design and engineering teams during build out. Ensure the design system is correctly implemented across all components.
  • Partner with your team to incorporate UX activities into an agile workflow.
    • Collaboratively create and evolve user stories and acceptance criteria with product owner and wider Scrum team.
    • Keep UX work in sync with the product roadmap and flag delays or issues in research and design.
  • We expect the responsibilities of this position to shift and grow organically over time, in response to considerations such as the unique strengths and interests of the selected candidate and other team members and an evolving understanding of the delivery environment.

Basic qualifications

  • At least five (5) years of experience working as UX researcher / designer or related position in collaboration with cross-functional, complex digital product teams.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing complex systems in order to quickly identify pain points, bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
  • Experience conducting user research, creating personas, and designing intuitive interfaces to efficiently develop service blueprints that meet user needs.
  • Portfolio illustrating your process and samples of quantitative and qualitative user research and product designs.
  • Understands human centered design, interaction design fundamentals, and UI design best practices, including accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Proficient in Sketch, Figma and modern prototyping tools.
  • Practice with incorporating new experiences into an established design and content system.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners and other researchers and designers, seeking and providing feedback in an agile environment.
  • Is curious, adaptive, empathetic, collaborative and holds a positive mindset. Eager to learn, experiment and innovate.
  • Ability to take initiative in solving complex problems.
  • Excellent presentation, storytelling, and facilitation skills to engage and collaborate with clients, particularly in a workshop setting.

Additional desired qualifications

  • Familiarity with the US Web Design System
  • Experience working with government agencies
  • You are a U.S. Veteran

Salary and Sixer Benefits

The salary for this position is $129,210 - $135,836
