First Look Media is a new-model company devoted to supporting independent voices, from fearless investigative journalism and documentary filmmaking to smart, provocative entertainment. Launched in 2013 by eBay founder and philanthropist Pierre Omidyar, First Look Media was created with the belief that independent perspectives are vital to both a vibrant culture and a thriving democracy.

First Look operates as both a studio and digital media company. As a studio, we develop, produce and finance content for all screens and platforms including feature films, television, digital series and podcasts. As a media company, we are finding new ways to connect compelling independent creators with passionate audiences through our own properties and on media platforms of our partners.

The Position:

The Product Designer (UX) is a key participant in the project development process. The product designer develops key goals and themes for the upcoming products. When the goals are set, the Product Designer will strive to craft an interface that embodies those fundamental ideas through clear organizational structure, articulate labels and intuitive interface.  


  • Participate in Discovery interviews to uncover project goals
  • Perform detailed analysis of a website, developing clear documentation that shows the site's content and components
  • Study site analytics to gain knowledge about historical audience behavior
  • Articulate business goals, audience needs, and project themes in a PRD
  • Develop detailed site maps for expansive Web destinations
  • Create wireframe layouts for pages that present content and functionality with intuitive clarity and beautiful balance
  • Develop flow diagrams to demonstrate interactive functionality and animated interface elements
  • Present and defend your concepts with concrete tactical rationale

Background & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years experience as a user interface designer, preferably within an agency or media environment
  • Enthusiastic creativity; you are passionate about great ideas
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert user of Omnigraffle for developing site maps and wireframes
  • Create high fidelity design specs
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with today’s web development technology trends
  • Mobile Web and app development
  • Responsive Web design principles
