About the role 

Fable is looking for a UX Researcher who is responsible for identifying accessibility and usability issues through user interviews and evaluative research using our platform. This role involves regularly engaging with people with disabilities and requires a candidate who is sensitive, respectful and who has the ability to tailor their processes to meet individual requirements. 

This UX Researcher will work closely with customers and other Fable team members to conduct research about how various digital product offerings can be improved for people with disabilities. An understanding of how various assistive technologies interact with digital products, and the web, is preferred.  

The ideal candidate is excellent at independent problem-solving, is adaptable, and comfortable with the growth and changes of a dynamic work environment. Fable is a rapidly growing and busy team; the UX Researcher must be flexible to the changing business needs of Fable. 

The successful candidate will be open to supporting the business in many ways, leveraging any and all skills you may have. This individual is analytical, detail oriented, responsible and consistently demonstrates strong communication skills.

Examples of day-to-day activities: 

  • Attend a weekly check-in meeting with a designated customer to ensure their projects are on track 
  • Conduct a user interview with an assistive technology user while a customer sits in on the call 
  • Support other UX researchers who are leading research studies by running interviews on their behalf, analyzing findings and creating reports 
  • Analyze a group of interviews for key takeaways and package those prioritized findings into a report for customers 
  • Host a shareout meeting to share insights from the research as well as foster customer involvement in the research   

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct generative and evaluative research with assistive technology users on digital products (such as websites, web-apps, mobile apps and software) on behalf of Fable’s customers 
  • Collaborate with Fable team members or other relevant parties on the customer side to scope and run usability research 
  • Identify pain points, preferences, and behaviors surfaced in user interviews and document them in a structured note-taking template 
  • Analyze and synthesize research findings to generate actionable insights and prioritized recommendations for product improvement
  • Provide clear and timely project updates to customers and escalate issues and concerns to management or customer success 
  • Maintain internal customer documentation and track deliverables via our project management system 
  • Support other UX researchers on their research studies


Skills and qualifications:

  • 1+ years facilitating user interviews on digital products in a UXR context 
  • Able to define research goals, articulate hypotheses and apply the best research methods for a wide range of problems 
  • Experience translating research findings into actionable recommendations  
  • Ability to communicate and change communication strategies to accommodate a wide range of project stakeholders including executives, managers, researchers, designers and engineers 
  • Compassionate and patient demeanour with confidence and assertion to get things done 
  • Active listening and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to build relationships and connect with people quickly 
  • Organized and able to manage a large volume of tasks independently 
  • Confidence to manage difficult situations and conversations 
  • Tech-savvy with the ability to navigate apps and software 
  • Strong analytical, communication and team skills 

You must be: 

  • Proficient with user research: Experienced in running and reporting on the results of usability studies. 
  • Passionate: Be interested and curious about assistive technology, accessibility and user research. 
  • Open-minded: Be open and personable with an understanding that the human spectrum is diverse. 
  • Problem-solver: If something goes wrong, you look for the next step to solve it and use judgement on who to collaborate with and escalate issues to.
  • Creative and adaptable: You’ll jump in and flex your various skills whenever necessary. You’re looking for your newest challenge, ready to join a quickly evolving team 

Nice to have: 

  • Experience with assistive technology or engaging with assistive technology users

Pay range

$85k CAD - $100k CAD - this is a range and is subject to change, depending on experience and role fit. Please take this as a general range.
