Udacity’s Video Production team is looking for a Visual Instructional Designer to improve the creation of Udacity’s course content. The successful candidate(s) will work on a variety of course projects; will work directly with remote designers; review and critique content from the Content Build Team; and drive the creative visuals of videos. 

The right candidate will have strong creative skills and will be adept at communicating a design vision clearly. They’ll also be highly communicative and have experience working in fully integrated cross-functional teams. Those that thrive at Udacity have experience juggling several projects at once yet know when to ask for clarification!


  • Translating technical content into a visual medium 
  • Managing on-call team to bring visuals to life within slides and beyond
  • Working directly with Subject Matter Experts and Curriculum Managers to find best visual representation of content, regardless of topic
  • Tracking progress using JIRA and Google Sheets. 
  • Clearly communicating design vision to those with and without design backgrounds
  • Proactively propose and implements improvements to department processes
  • Ability to design complex charts, graphs, and data-driven visuals

What we value:

  • A minimum of 4 years experience as an Instructional Designer
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Cloud and Google Suite
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrable history of working on multiple projects at once
  • People management skills
  • A good eye for design

It’d be great if you also have:

  • Experience with online learning
  • Experience with Adobe AfterEffects
  • Some basic computer science, AI, or data science knowledge
