The Opportunity

It’s a time of transformation and growth at Hatch. Building on our roots as a best-selling and beloved kids hardware device, we’ve expanded into the adult category, and are rapidly growing our share of subscription revenue on the back of premium content and features in both our kid and adult product lines. As a marketing group, we’re moving from being mostly a direct-response marketing team to a full scope marketing group buying in the full funnel against a variety of sales and marketing goals. 
We are looking for a senior growth marketing leader to drive our strategy for all paid media channels and build a strategic media buying function for Hatch. The right candidate will help us develop a media model for the business we’re becoming, and will show us how to buy the right media to put our brand in front of the right consumer at the right time with the right message. This job reports to the CMO, sits on the senior marketing leadership staff, and works closely with the head of Marketing Analytics, ecommerce,  and finance leadership. You must be based in the United States or Canada. Hatch is based out of California, so this role would be asked to be available during PST/PDT hours.

Responsibilities and Profile
  • You’ll design and drive high performance media campaigns for all products, and you will also help define the vision of our marketing technology stack, build strong platform and network partnerships, and manage our media agencies.
  • You’ll collaborate deeply with Marketing Analytics on the testing and learning agenda for marketing growth. You’ll plan and execute marketing experiments and you have familiarity and experience with different attribution methodologies, like MTA, MMM, and incrementality/lift analyses. 
  • You’ll work with finance on bottoms up sales and marketing forecasts. You’ll closely follow sales performance and keep the CMO and leadership team informed on trends, weak spots, and opportunity areas.
  • You’ll be curious about the consumer journey and partner closely with ecomm to understand, model, and manipulate the full scope of the consumer journey on Hatch.co, and on Amazon and our retail partners.
  • You have a deep understanding of digital and performance marketing, but also experience driving a full funnel media strategy in all channels, with particular strength in podcast, connected TV, and social. You have a record of hitting - and beating - your numbers. You also have some experience in international media markets.
  • You understand the difference between marketing a consumer product for point of sale versus also marketing for subscription acquisition, engagement and retention. You’ve worked in a subscription,  entertainment or content-driven business.
  • You are generally left brained, forming a POV that is rooted in data, but are also comfortable taking risks, and applying your judgment and creativity in moments of ambiguity and competing information. Unflustered working in a startup environment and can guide teams through ambiguity.
  • You’re creatively interested. You know that creative and media are more powerful together. You’ll know what we really should buy and what we can earn, and you’re used to working with comms and creative teams to influence the creative process and can also be flexible with your media when creative opportunities arise.
  • You’re a beloved manager and mentor, and your former employees would gush if we called for a reference check. You get joy from collaborating, sharing your skills and knowledge with others and in making the business even smarter. You’re known for having impact outside of your specialty area.
  • You’ve seen the Hatch values and they resonate with your personal style. You love to learn fast and aren’t afraid to take risks, you know how to give direct feedback, you share your work early and often, and you aren’t afraid of being hands on in a startup environment.
What You’ll Do

Within 3 Months:
  • Build a strong understanding of our business model, marketing strategy, measurement frameworks and current media approach. Know the company and marketing success metrics like the back of your hand.
  • Understand the brand, product lines, channel spends, budgets and forecasts, current CACs, and consumer journey. 
  • Put together a topline media strategy and list of hypotheses about how our media model could improve. Uncover and share insights based on what you’re seeing as you dive in.
  • Build relationships with your partners and peers in marketing, finance, sales, and product.
  • Get to know our agency partners and begin to form an opinion of their efficacy, strengths and weaknesses.
  • Get immersed in the data sets that are available to the marketing team and make recommendations on where to invest and improve.
  • Conceive of, execute and report on your first small scale tests to optimize media investment.
  • Make a recommendation for an optimal team structure to grow the Hatch business.
Within 6 Months:
  • You’ve earned the confidence of the CMO and leadership who seek your counsel and guidance on where to spend the next best dollar.
  • You’ve run our first major media experiments to improve our media effectiveness.
  • You’ve had a successful collaboration with the rest of the marketing team on a large scale campaign.
  • You’re hitting and regularly beating the sales forecast.
  • You’ve developed an effective operational model and communication approach with your team, cross functional partners and execs.
After 1 Year:
  • You’ve transformed the Hatch media strategy, and helped the business understand and have confidence in a full funnel model for fastest growth.
  • You’ve worked with Marketing analytics and implemented an effective attribution model.
  • You’re seen as a thought leader for the business, and your opinion is sought on questions ranging from product strategy to inventory planning to talent.
  • You’ve spent our money wisely and learned how to drive higher ROAS than we’ve ever had before.
  • You’ve made and successfully onboarded your first key hires.
