2023 Legal Intern, Privacy (Fall Semester)

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two Hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 4 million Hosts who have welcomed more than 1 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, Hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The community you will join:

Airbnb is seeking an intern to join the Legal Privacy team for a 2023 Fall semester internship (part-time - 15 hours per week).

The Airbnb Legal Privacy team supports the entire Airbnb business, including product development and privacy compliance requirements. Airbnb is a global company and the Legal Privacy team works to protect our hosts’ and guests’ data rights everywhere. We support the Product, Cybersecurity, Policy, Litigation, Research, and Corporate legal teams, among others. We provide guidance on privacy laws globally, including U.S. state and federal privacy laws, the EU’s GDPR, and Brazil’s LGPD, and we collaborate with the Airbnb policy team on proposed privacy legislation.

The ideal candidate must have a proven ability to learn new areas of law and function independently in a demanding fast-paced environment. We’re looking for a highly adaptable and collaborative person who can handle ambiguity and rapidly shifting priorities with flexibility, patience, and poise.

The difference you will make:

As an intern, you’ll be integrated into a team where you’ll contribute to challenging projects. Your manager, team, and our incredible employee community will strive to be superhosts to you during the summer. We provide the support, mentorship, fun, and real world experience needed to accelerate your learning and make a real impact on our product, as Airbnb revolutionizes connection, belonging, and travel.

A typical day:

Working with an in-house specialized privacy team is a rare and valuable opportunity to gain practical experience. Our privacy internship program stands apart in that it offers a sustained period of substantive project work. Past interns have provided a great amount of help to the Legal Privacy team, including researching new bills, laws, and privacy regulatory guidance. For example, our privacy interns supported implementing new state privacy law requirements and were able to interact with global legal counterparts, engineers, and the Privacy operations team while working on cutting edge privacy issues. Past interns have gone on to secure full- or part-time employment with a number of dynamic technology companies, including Airbnb.

As an intern, you’ll be expected to:

  • Collaborate with multiple team members to achieve project milestones
  • Communicate with the legal team and other stakeholders to provide project updates
  • Proactively seek and provide feedback throughout the internship
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the legal and broader Airbnb community

Your expertise:

  • Current first- or second-year student enrolled at a nationally-accredited law school.
  • Applicants must (1) have taken at least one privacy class or (2) received CIPP (either US or EU) certification prior to beginning the internship.
  • Be willing to roll up your sleeves for tasks big and small.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, intellectual curiosity, sense of humor, team collaboration, and willingness to grow.
