The Role:

The AML/BSA Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all operational components of the organization’s Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) compliance program. This role leads a team responsible for alert investigations, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, customer due diligence (CDD/EDD), and regulatory reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong data and analytics skills to enhance program efficiency, optimize workflows, and support risk‑based decision-making. The manager ensures full alignment with federal and state regulatory requirements while driving continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations related to transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and fraud/AML escalations.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure the organization complies with all applicable BSA, AML, and OFAC regulations, guidance, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee preparation and filing of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs), and applicable OFAC reports.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise on current and emerging regulatory changes and implement updates in operational processes.
  • Support regulatory exams, audits, and independent testing by providing documentation, walkthroughs, and remediation plans.

Data & Analytics

  • Leverage strong data analysis skills to monitor program performance, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.
  • Partner with data teams to enhance AML models, rules, and thresholds within transaction monitoring and sanctions systems.
  • Develop dashboards, KPIs, and reports to monitor team and system effectiveness (e.g., alert volumes, clearance rates, SAR conversion, backlog risk).
  • Conduct data-driven risk assessments and support periodic updates to the institution’s BSA/AML risk profile.

Technology & Process Optimization

  • Evaluate existing systems and workflows to identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements.
  • Collaborate with technology teams on system enhancements, model tuning, and implementation of new tools (e.g., case management platforms, analytics engines).
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy across AML systems and reporting.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with Compliance, Fraud, Operations, IT, and Product teams to ensure cohesive risk management practices.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal teams to reinforce understanding of AML/BSA/OFAC requirements.
  • Present program metrics, trends, and issues to senior leadership.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Criminal Justice, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5–7+ years of experience in AML/BSA compliance, including operational management.
  • Deep knowledge of BSA, AML, OFAC regulations, industry standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Strong analytical skills with hands‑on experience using data tools (e.g., SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Experience with transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and case management systems.
  • Proven leadership experience, including team development and performance management.

Preferred

  • CAMS, CAFP, CRCM, or similar certification.
  • Experience working in financial institutions, fintechs, or payments organizations.
  • Familiarity with model governance, machine learning‑based detection systems, or tuning of AML scenarios.

The hiring range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. A bonus and/or incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, vision, 401k, and other benefits.
