At Pave, we believe the world of compensation is broken, and we’re going to fix it. Today, teams cobble together hundreds of messy spreadsheets and outdated surveys to determine how to compensate their employees. At best, they’re leveraging stale data from an industry that is quickly evolving past it. Add COVID, a new remote and distributed workforce, and you have an even blurrier picture of what “market compensation” is, how it’s evolving, and how to communicate it to employees.

That’s where we come in. Pave allows companies to benchmark compensation to leaders in their industry, analyze internal compensation data and make the right adjustments, then visually communicate compensation to their employees.  We’re building the world’s largest real-time compensation data platform on the path to help employers and employees navigate the murky world of compensation with clarity, equity, and accessibility. Our Team

The Benchmarking Team is building the industry's largest real-time dataset of employee compensation information. Our product is sold to startups across the United States, distributed through a network of 40+ VCs. It covers 1,600 companies and 150,000 employees from Seed to post-IPO. It is used by hundreds of founders, hiring managers, and HR professionals to set compensation bands for new hires and existing employees alike.   
 
We are a highly cross-functional team, working with members in sales, product, engineering, and marketing while also building our own group of builders and operators. This broad scope has accelerated our need for a strategy and business operations hire to build alignment across the organization and pick up strategic projects that have no obvious owner.

Your Primary Focus

- Special projects. There are limitless opportunities to improve our product quality and penetration in the market. While functional leaders are focused on improving the business within their swim lane, we're looking for an independent operator who can tackle high leverage projects that cut across the organization.
- Organizational alignment. We need an in-the-weeds leader to align the team around a set of shared goals, operating cadence, and reporting structure. It is critical that we are rowing in the same direction as we accelerate into 2022.
- Strategy & what's next. Pave has the opportunity to become a generationally-lasting business as companies of all sizes, industries, and geographies contribute data into their ecosystem. We have our eye on the ball in front of us and need a partner to help define what's coming up next.
- Opportunity discovery. Identify issues, develop hypotheses, and execute in-depth analyses to translate data into impactful insights and make recommendations to the broader Pave leadership team.

 

About You

- You are at home in an ambiguous environment. You enjoy the exploration of finding the right problem to solve.
- You are highly analytical and metrics-oriented. You form hypothesis, define KPIs, size opportunity areas, and measure and report on outcomes
- You are interested in flexing across operations, product, marketing, and multiple functions within the business
- You are a problem solver. You look at the world through the lens of infinite puzzles waiting to be solved.
- You are a thoughtful and empathetic communicator and partner. This is a highly cross-functional role and success requires someone who can bring others along on a journey.
- You likely have early stage startup experience, managing projects from inception to completion.
- You likely have consultant, banking, or private equity, or similar experience.

Our Compensation Philosophy

Pave’s compensation philosophy is to target the 75th percentile of the market for both cash and equity. This means that the “mid point” of every band at Pave is the 75th percentile of the broader market.

Pave also has a merit-based philosophy when it comes to compensation increases. We run a performance cycle twice per year to evaluate employees’ performance. Higher than average performance ratings result in compensation increases to the upper end of the individual’s compensation range for their role. The result is that high performers at Pave are paid above the 75th percentile of the market at large.

Pave is committed to pay equity. If you get an offer from Pave, it will be based on your level as determined by your interview performance. And nothing else. We explicitly do not negotiate salary and equity to ensure that we aren’t introducing bias that could lead to pay inequities within the team between candidates who have different negotiation tactics.
