Career Coach

We’re seeking a qualified, student centered Career Coach to join the Pathstream team. Career coaches support students by providing expert career guidance and individualized coaching to help students achieve their career goals.

At Pathstream, we’re building a new type of online learning experience focused on teaching on-the-job skills and providing real outcomes for students. Our programs are built by educators, engineers, designers, and doers who care about democratizing access to best-in-class learning. Our curriculum is delivered by a team of instructors, teaching assistants, project evaluators, and coaches who provide high-quality student support and a personalized learning experience.

Pathstream students are diverse and range from laid-off workers looking to find a career, to full-time professionals that need to upskill or re-skill to stay relevant in today’s changing job market. As a Career Coach, you will directly impact students’ career trajectories and contribute to the building career services at Pathstream. A successful Career Coach is committed to providing individualized career guidance, motivating students to persist through the job search, and collaborating with others to collectively scale and grow Pathstream’s career services offerings.  

This is a flexible, contract position that will require between 20-40 hours of work per week. We ask that you commit to a minimum of 6 months so that we can ensure a consistent student experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver individual career coaching via Zoom to a diverse student population seeking to change careers, upskill or re-skill in the areas of digital marketing, data analytics, project management and Salesforce CRM
  • Support answering student questions about their job search by email in between coaching sessions, and review student resumes as needed
  • Collaborate on and create resources, webinars and content that will support students in their career journey
  • Provide feedback, input and thought leadership on career services at Pathstream with the goal of more effectively serving students 
  • Research and stay up to date on best practices, trends and insights in the job search and career coaching space 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in career coaching, career services, recruiting, talent management or a related field
  • Experience maintaining and building relationships via phone and video conference with a diverse student population 
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of career coaching, career development and job search strategies
  • Excellent listening, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Goal setting and motivational skills to support learners that may be frustrated or “stuck” in their career journey 
  • Passionate about education and serving adult learners in navigating career transitions

POSITION DETAILS & LOGISTICS

  • Type: Freelance/Contract (1099) with opportunity to transition to full-time with benefits
  • Location: Remote or in SF Bay Area
  • Compensation: $35 per hour, with the opportunity to increase over time
  • Equipment Needed: Computer with internet access (fast enough for video calls)
  • Commitment: 20-40 hours per week for at least a 6 month period 
  • Flexibility: This position can be done from anywhere in the US. You will be required to be available for set times each week to speak with students via Zoom.
  • Required Training: As a Career Coach, you will be asked to participate in a virtual onboarding process. You will be compensated for this onboarding time.

STEP 2. If your application is approved, we will send you a short Take-Home Assignment to be completed within 5 business days. The assignment includes responding to a few career-related scenarios that you will encounter as a Career Coach.

STEP 3. If the take-home assignment is approved, we will schedule a 30-minute phone interview with you to discuss the details of the position.

STEP 4. If the interview goes well, we will reach out with next steps to bring you onboard as a Pathstream Career Coach!
