Character Concept Artist

FireForge is looking for a skilled Character Concept Artist to join our Mission Viejo, CA office. The Character Concept Artist creates character and ability concept art from quick rough sketches to final quality full color production pieces. The Character Concept Artist reports to the Art Director and works with Designers and other artists to provide a foundation for the mood and style of our games. This is a full-time salaried position. You must be legally able to work in the United States.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create highly-stylized paintings and illustrations primarily for characters but also for abilities and special effects.
• Design original concepts within style guidelines from rough idea to final production art and polished illustrations
• Assist in the extension of artistic techniques and processes that serve as underlying elements for visual style
• Complete work under reasonable deadlines

REQUIREMENTS

SKILLS

• Strong traditional fine art skills (illustration, painting, color theory, perspective, etc.)
• High level of proficiency with Photoshop and/or Painter
• Understanding of lighting, composition, atmosphere, materials and textures
• Ability to create art in a variety of styles
• Strong communication and organization skills
• Self motivated to achieve high quality work
• Work well under stressful conditions

EXPERIENCE

• Experience with video game development
• Minimum 2 years experience in a concept artist position
• Has played a variety of computer games with different artistic styles

EDUCATION: Art related degree and/or comparable professional experience

PLUSES

• Understanding of 3D packages such as Max, Maya, or XSI
• A passion for playing video games
• Experience as an animator, modeler and/or texture artist
• Prior work creating promotional materials for marketing purposes
• Storyboarding experience
