Clinical Lab Director (Remote w/ travel)

Invitae is seeking a full-time board-certified Clinical Laboratory Director to join a clinical laboratory team that is motivated by the patient on the other end of every sample tested.

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with an experienced team of board-certified laboratory directors and genetic counselors, genomics scientists, bioinformaticians, and other professionals who aim to bring comprehensive diagnostic and preventive genetic testing to the world. Invitae’s clinical genomics team is passionate about the company’s mission, encouraging creative thinkers to come up with new ways to provide important information to patients and clinicians and streamline clinical reporting.

What you will do:

Invitae is seeking a full-time, board-certified Clinical Laboratory Director of Record to join a clinical laboratory team that is motivated by the patient on the other end of every sample tested.

• Ongoing involvement in overseeing laboratory processes and in review and sign out of clinical laboratory reports
• Support the Laboratory Director’s team in ongoing responsibilities, including:
• Evaluation and input into ongoing monitoring of testing processes including troubleshooting and quality improvement activities
• Design and oversight of validation and test transfer into clinical testing workflow
• Establishment and monitoring of performance criteria for clinical tests, including coordination across incident management, client communication, etc.
• Support for audits
• Coordination across multiple groups and clinical testing sites
• Other duties, at the discretion of the Lead Clinical Laboratory Director
• Represent and ensure compliance with clinical laboratory regulations and medical standards (CLIA, CAP, ACMG/CPIC, etc. as relevant given the specific test type and technical characteristics)

What you bring:

• M.D. or Ph.D, plus 8 years of relevant experience.
• ABMGG certification in Molecular Genetics, Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, or ABP certification in Molecular Pathology
• Hold or be eligible for California Clinical Laboratory Director’s License (CGMB) or California Medical License
• Hold or be eligible for NY Certificate of Qualification in Genetic Testing (NY CoQ)
• Ability to be onsite in San Francisco at least one week per month. More onsite time preferred

Preferred skills:

• Strong genetics background with proficiency in clinical genomics and bioinformatics
• Interest in clinical laboratory processes, regulatory requirements, and professional guidelines
• Excellent communication skills to ensure collaboration across:
• Molecular laboratory
• Bioinformatics
• Clinical reporting
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong experience with modern molecular techniques
