Cloud Architect
Job Description
J2 Interactive is seeking a highly skilled Cloud Architect to design, implement, and optimize cloud-based solutions for our healthcare technology projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud infrastructure, security, and architecture best practices, with experience working across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. You will play a key role in shaping the cloud strategy, ensuring scalability, security, and high availability for mission-critical healthcare applications.
Most of our work is in the healthcare space, supporting hospitals, research institutions, and health information exchanges. Our cloud solutions enable secure, efficient, and scalable data processing to support applications used by physicians, nurses, hospital administrators, data analysts, and patients. The Cloud Architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and optimize cloud infrastructure that meets the industry's highest standards for security, performance, and reliability.
Though our headquarters is located in Charlestown (Boston), MA, this is a telecommuting position open to anyone eligible to work in the U.S.
Candidates must be willing to submit to a background check. No recruiters or third-party solicitations, please.
Skills Description
We are looking for candidates with a strong cloud-first mindset who approach system architecture with a focus on scalability, security, and performance. The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture and cloud-native solutions
- Proficiency with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud (multi-cloud experience is a plus)
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS, EKS, or GKE)
- Strong understanding of cloud security best practices, compliance, and governance
- Expertise in infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools
- Experience designing and implementing serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, GCP Cloud Functions)
- Knowledge of cloud networking, VPNs, and hybrid cloud architectures
- Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and automation
- Experience with cloud cost optimization and performance tuning
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with development teams and stakeholders
Other stuff that is desirable, but not strictly necessary:
- Healthcare experience, especially working with HIPAA-compliant environments
- Experience with FHIR, HL7, or other healthcare data exchange standards
- Familiarity with big data and analytics services in the cloud (AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, GCP BigQuery)
- Experience with identity and access management (IAM, Okta, Azure AD, AWS Cognito)
- Cloud certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Cloud Professional Architect)
As we say in all of our listings, most of all we want people who are smart, creative, and fearless. Frankly we'd rather hire a brilliant, highly motivated cloud architect who's missing some of the relevant experience than someone with all the right skills who lacks the personal qualities we're looking for. But of course, the perfect candidates will have both.
