Communications Intern 

This is a paid, internship of 30-35 hours a week with a tentative start date of May and ending in August (dates TBD). This position will be based onsite in the Arlington, VA. 

The primary function of the Communications Intern (General) is to assist the Office of Communications with various communications projects to support the needs of the diocese, its parishes, and Catholic Charities. Throughout the course of the internship, the Communications Intern will support several members of communications team in planning and assisting with projects as needed. 

Over the course of the internship, duties will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assist with writing draft scripts, statements, messages, and press releases.
  • Assist with planning social media content calendar for Catholic Charities and Diocese.
  • Review diocesan and Catholic Charities webpages to identify, recommend and draft content updates.
  • Work with Director of Media Relations to identify parish initiatives to publicize, update media contacts, and scour parish websites for events of interest for press release content.
  • Assist multimedia and digital team with video, podcast recordings, and asset management. 

This position is overseen by the Chief Communications Officer with day-to-day management by the Deputy Director of Communications. Formal direction meetings will take place on a weekly or greater basis. Interaction with most members of the communications team and other chancery staff will occur daily. 

Qualifications:

    • Rising sophomore in college or beyond, studying communications, marketing or English preferred
    • Must have strong organizational skills, be detail-oriented and self-motivated
    • Must have excellent written and oral communication abilities
    • Must have a proven ability to work independently within a team environment
    • Must have grounding in the Catholic faith and the desire and ability to promote the mission and the faith
    • Preference given to residents of Diocese
