Founded in 2015, the Westside Justice Center (WJC) is not just a workplace—it is a community-centered Legal Aid clinic committed to eradicating barriers to justice and uplifting authentic community leadership.
As a Community Navigator, you will support and empower individuals and communities to access, attain, understand, and act on their rights, through education, support, step-down training and dissemination of information. Community Navigators steward resources and support individuals in accessing timely legal services. This role is part-time, on-call and event support.
Responsibilities
- Community Outreach
- Assist with the distribution of literature and canvas materials
- Organize and help plan community events
- Work with community partners to establish, maintain and nurture relationships
- Attend meetings sponsored by community-based organizations
- Know Your Rights/Legal Education
- Plan, schedule and conduct trainings for Know Your Rights
- Increase the impact and outcome of legal education in the community
- Assist with accompaniments as needed
Successful Candidates Will Possess
- Demonstrated interest in the work of WJC and/or its clients
- Familiarity with the landscape of community-based resources in Chicagoland
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to be both creative and innovative
- Experience in community building activities
- Experience in project management
- Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
- Strong organizational skills and proven attention to detail
- Cultural competency
- Strong customer service orientation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Compensation
Community Navigators receive $25 per hour worked.
