Compliance Manager

Etsy is seeking a Compliance Manager to help continue to develop, oversee and enforce the Etsy Compliance Program. Etsy’s global Legal Team (which includes legal, compliance, policy and advocacy) works with every Etsy business unit, across our offices worldwide. We counsel product teams, draft contracts and policies, manage global compliance, advise engineers and leadership, advocate externally, and handle disputes to protect Etsy and our users. We meaningfully support Etsy’s growth by delivering legal and business know-how with a great work ethic. 

This position is based in Brooklyn, NY.

About the Role

  • Continuing to manage, build, enforce and enhance Etsy’s Compliance Program and leading a culture of compliance
  • Risk Assessment:  Learning Etsy’s business to identify new and emerging risks, monitoring new/evolving products, personnel changes, and changes to contractual relationships
  • Third Party Oversight:  You have significant experience managing third party risk and you will help lead the development of our vendor review and onboarding process
  • Conducting investigations and, if necessary, recommending remedial actions
  • Policy Ownership:  Ongoing review, development, testing and training of policies, understanding changes in laws, regulations, or operations
  • Track legislation, rule changes, state laws and other regulatory advisories and changes
  • Establish controls for and maintain oversight of recordkeeping and record retention requirements

About You

  • 8+ years experience in Compliance, Risk or Audit
  • Strong knowledge of laws relevant to a publicly traded global tech company, including anti-money laundering, sanctions, payments, COPPA, privacy, AB/AC, FCPA, third party oversight and more
  • Ability to understand legal and regulatory concepts and convert them into relevant, practical business requirements
  • Prior experience with external auditors and regulators is desirable.
  • Experience developing policies and procedures, as well as testing and training on them
  • Exceptional influencing skills to comfortably and accurately communicate the importance of compliance to an executive to developers both internally and externally.
  • Your technical skills should be sharp enough to understand how our platform works, and to design, implement and test the appropriate controls.
  • High level of self-motivation and good independent judgment - you will need to evaluate risk, scope your work, and then execute against your plan
  • Ability to lead projects to success, yet be a team player
  • Demonstrated highest professional and ethical standards, including the ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Relevant compliance certifications
