Corporate Development Partner - Bio
Andreessen Horowitz, a high technology venture capital firm, has an immediate opening for a Partner-level role on our Corporate Development Operating Group aligned with our Bio activities: companies at the intersection of computer science and biology.
Andreessen Horowitz is a $7.1 billion venture capital firm focused on software investments. The firm backs startups of all stages and its investments include Affirm, Airbnb, Apeel, Buzzfeed, Coinbase, Databricks, DigitalOcean, Freenome, GitHub, Instacart, Lyft, Pinterest, Shield.ai, Slack, and Tanium.
The Corporate Development team’s mission is twofold: 1) Build long-term, sustained relationships with the most important investors, partners, acquirers and advisors to our portfolio companies; and 2) Assist our portfolio companies in preparation and execution of transactions, primarily raising capital, IPO readiness and M&A transactions.
The successful candidate will: (i) build and manage relationships with investors, acquirers, partners and advisors that align with the Bio portion of a16z’s portfolio; and (ii) work directly with firm’s bio-focused portfolio companies (~15 today) to advise and assist in their fundraising, IPO preparation and strategic activities.
The primary outcomes of the role are to provide real and sustained value to: (i) our network of capital and strategic relationships (financial investors, strategic investors and acquirers, and advisors) – in the form of access to the firm’s insights in areas of potential investment, access to appropriate portfolio companies and insight into their investment or partnership and M&A strategy, as appropriate; (ii) our Bio portfolio companies – in the form of ensuring that they are counseled to execute flawless capital raise, partnership and M&A processes and are well informed about potential opportunities with our network partners; and (iii) the firm – in the form of providing systematic feedback and insight into investment and areas of organic and inorganic growth within our investor and corporate development partners.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Network Relationships
· Identify and develop relationships with the appropriate parties that are relevant to the firm’s Bio portfolio companies:
· Capital – downstream investors including Venture, Growth, Cross-over, and Secondary equity investors, as well as debt providers
· Strategic – investors, acquirers and partners and the leading and most active corporate and Private Equity firms
· IPO – advisor, research and investor network relationships
· Institute a relationship calling program with this group through which you will:
· Learn the potential areas of opportunity for the firm and our portfolio companies
· Deliver the firm’s POV on these areas
· Facilitate relationships with appropriate portfolio companies
· Provide guidance as to investment and M&A opportunities
2. Transaction Guidance & Execution
· Work directly with the firm’s portfolio companies (in coordination with the entire Corporate Development team and General Partners) to:
· Understand and advise on the full lifecycle of their funding needs
· Map their strategic landscape and determine opportunities and threats, both among investors, incumbents and strategic activity in their sector
· Identify their buy-side M&A strategy and potential partners
· Assist in planning for capital raising, sell-side M&A processes, whether as the result of in-bound M&A interest or as part of strategic demand generation
Ideal Candidate Background:
· 10+ years of investment banking experience in a senior healthcare coverage / relationship management role
· Demonstrated ability to build and maintain a valuable and relevant network of investors, acquirers and advisors
· Positive attitude, good instincts and sharp focus
· Demonstrated high level of achievement
