About the Application Process
At Harvard
At Harvard, CS50 reviews CA applications, schedules interviews, and extends offers in three waves:
Wave 0: applications due by Sun 1/25/15, offers out by Sun 2/15/15
Wave 1: applications due by Sun 2/15/15, offers out by Fri 3/20/15
Wave 2: applications due by Mon 9/7/15, offers out by Fri 9/18/15
Because first-round interviews are always a bit nerve-wracking, CS50 instead does them via video so that you've an opportunity to put your best foot forward. Before submitting the below, take some time to prepare a ~5-minute lesson plan on any CS50-related topic with which you're comfortable. And then film yourself teaching it! The format is entirely up to you. You can approach it like a section, like office hours, or like one-on-one tutoring. You can talk to the camera or to a friend pretending to be a student. Or to a class of stuffed animals. Whatever you think would give us a good sense of you as a teacher. You're welcome to use props (e.g., a laptop), but drawing on a piece of paper and holding it up to the camera is fine. Don't worry too much about the quality of the video; having a friend film you with a smartphone is fine! Creativity welcome. When ready, upload it to YouTube and flag it as "unlisted" (not "private").
At Yale
At Yale, CS50 reviews applications, schedules interviews, and extends offers on a rolling basis in order to assemble a full team before commencing Spring Training (i.e. training modules on campus after Spring Recess, which are in addition to CS50 Staff Training before the fall term).
Applications may be submitted at any time, but are due at the latest by Mon 3/2/15. Once you submit your application, we may offer you an on-campus interview, which will take place on one of the following Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays: 2/20 to 2/22; 2/27 to 3/1; 3/6 to 3/8. Slots for interviews are limited, so best to submit your application as soon as you have completed it thoroughly.
If you so choose, you may submit with your application a video of a ~5-minute lesson plan on any CS50-related topic with which you're comfortable. See the "At Harvard" section above for more details. Again, the submission of a video is entirely optional.
